    Affliction: Banned

    MAIN CARD (aired on PPV)
    * Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia
    * Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell
    * Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo
    * Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Nascimento
    * Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead
    PRELIMINARY CARD (aired on FSN)
    * Paul Buentello vs. Aleksander Emelianenko
    * Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Edwin Dewees
PRELIMINARY CARD (may not be shown on tv)
    * Vitor Belfort vs. Terry Martin
    * Ray Lazama vs. Justin Levens
    * J.J. Ambrose vs. Mike Pyle
    * Mark Hominick vs. Savant Young

Should be an interesting fight card at the very least. 4 of the MMA world's top 6 active heaveyweights doing business, with Fedor vs Sylvia headlining it. I think Sylvia can give Fedor a good run for his money. I don't think he will win, but I think Fedor will know he was there when they get done fighting. It won't be no walk in the park, that's for sure. Arlovski, Barnett, Lindlan, Babalu, and Rizzo on all of them on this card also for the PPV part. Should be also kind of interesting to see lightweight Nogueira and Fedor's little brother. I am interested in tuning in and seeing this.

I don't quite know how they booked this card. Good names but the fights are lacking.

Seems like this would be a better card...

    Fedor vs. Sylvia
    Barnett vs. Arlovski
    Rothwell vs. Aleks
    Lindland vs. Belfort
    Sobral vs. Nogueira

    PRELIM
    Fabio vs. Martin
    Rizzo vs. Buentello
    White vs. Whitehead
    Lazama vs. Levens
    Ambrose vs. Pyle
    Hominck vs. Young

Also, I'm not sure what kind of PPV buys they are expecting, but with the UFC doing a free show the same night, I think they'll be hard pressed to get 50,000. I think PRIDE's first US show did about 75,000 and their last show did less.

This is a wet Dream card for hardcore fans, but that means they'll get less than 100K PPV buys. Everywhere I've read about this card, the issue is they're not doing much to promote the card to the general fan.

This looks like a bad idea all around if Affliction plans on staying in business. What do they do for an encore? This is putting all of their eggs in one basket and if they do low numbers, they're kinda screwed unless they hold a card 3-4 months afterwards and just match up basically the same fighters with new partners.

I love the card, but doubt they'll be around for long, which is a shame because I don't see the UFC scooping up all of this talent that will be fighting. Especially not Lindland nor Josh Barnett.

another fight has been added it seems. Can't wait to see what Cain can do vs such a tough wrestler like himself. This card is taking shape pretty quickly and is looking like a must see.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Jake O'Brien vs. Cain Velasquez scheduled for July 19 UFC card

In a move surely to delight this site's readers, the UFC has re-signed UFC heavyweight Jake O'Brien (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and scheduled him to fight Cain Velasquez (3-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at the recently announced UFC Fight Night 14 -- an event that features a headline bout of Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin.

A source close to O'Brien today told MMAjunkie.com that the fight has been agreed upon and will be announced as official soon.

The re-signing of O'Brien comes just two months after he was dropped from the organization.

O'Brien, who has lost only to Andrei Arlovski in his professional career, was shocked in April when he was dropped from the UFC with two fights remaining on his contract. He initially called the move "very surprising," and his camp confirmed that he had no idea that his UFC career was on the line during the comeback fight.

With an upset victory over veteran fighter Heath Herring in January 2007, O'Brien pushed his UFC record to 4-0. However, a few months after the fight, he underwent surgery because of "stingers," a painful nerve injury that originates in the spine. O'Brien went under the knife, and doctors entered through his neck to implant a medal rod and cadaver discs in his spine. At first, doctors feared the injury might be career-ending. However, O'Brien underwent physical therapy and returned from a 14-month layoff to fight Arlovski, but he suffered a second-round TKO.

With the new UFC contract, O'Brien has pulled out a planned July 18 Palace Fighting Championship fight. He signed a two-fight deal with the PFC just days after being dropped by the UFC.

He'll now take on Velasquez, a product of the American Kickboxing Academy who made his UFC debut in April at UFC 83. There, he scored a first-round TKO of Brad Morris -- his third consecutive first-round knockout since turning pro in October 2006.

Velasquez, a former Arizona State University wrestler, will meet a former Purdue University wrestler in O'Brien.</div>

wow, just wow at the names on this card already! and not only is Silva making his debut at 205, but so will Vera!!! YOW!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Brandon Vera expected to meet Reese Andy at UFC Fight Night 14

After a proposed bout with Wanderlei Silva failed to materialize, Brandon Vera will instead make his light-heavyweight debut against former IFL fighter and UFC newcomer Reese Andy (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 14.

Multiple sources close to the July 19 event tell MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the bout has been agreed upon and should be signed shortly.

As we reported earlier today, UFC Fight Night 14 will feature a main event between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and James Irvin in a non-title light-heavyweight bout. The event goes head-to-head with "Affliction: Banned."

After beginning his career with eight consecutive victories, Vera, a former top UFC heavyweight contender, has suffered back-to-back losses to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum. The most recent loss, which came at UFC 85 on June 7, ended in controversial fashion. Werdum was raining down punches, but when the referee stepped in to stop the fight with just 20 seconds remaining in the round, Vera vehemently protested.

Prior to the losses, Vera had defeated UFC fighters Fabiano Scherner, Justin Eilers, Assueiro Silva and former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir. Despite the success -- he earned stoppages in an average of just three minutes per fight -- he was usually the much-smaller fighter.

Vera will finally make the drop to the 205-pound class when he faces Andy, a three-year vet who's spent all but two fights with the IFL. The light heavyweight, who's also competed as a middleweight and heavyweight, wrestled for the University of Wyoming, where he was a three-time All-American.

Reese, who's trained under former UFC heavyweight champion Maurice Smith, will fight for the first time in more than a year. He most recently defeated Krzysztof Soszynski via split decision at a June 2007 IFL event.</div>

here's Reese's record in case you were wondering (like me) who in the heck is this guy?

    Win Krzysztof Soszynski (15-8-1) Decision (Split) 4:00 3 IFL - Everett 2007-06-01
Win Adam Maciejewski (6-5-0) Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 3:11 2 IFL - Moline 2007-04-07
    Win Justin Levens (9-8-0) Decision (Unanimous) 4:00 3 IFL - Oakland 2007-01-19
    Win Jamal Patterson (4-2-0) TKO 3:24 2 IFL - Championship Final 2006-12-29
    Loss Aaron Stark (6-4-0) TKO (Strikes) 2:00 3 IFL - Portland 2006-09-09
    Win Mike Ciesnolevicz (13-3-0) Decision (Split) 4:00 3 IFL - Championship 2006 2006-06-03
Win Trevor Garrett (7-9-0) Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 4:15 1 Superbrawl - Icon 2005-07-23
Win Kala Kolohe Hose (6-1-0) Decision (Unanimous) 3 SB 39 - Destiny 2005-04-09

So looks like he's not a scrub, but not on the fast track to a title either..

another rumored fight. I haven't seen much of Anthony Johnson, but what I did see was impressive!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Anthony Johnson vs Kevin Burns UFC Fight Night 14 fight booked
    By: MMAmania
Welterweights Anthony Johnson (5-1) and Kevin Burns (6-1) are set to do battle at UFC Fight Night 14 at The Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 19.

Johnson destroyed The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 finalist, Tommy Speer, at UFC Fight Night 13 via first round knockout. “Rumble” also made quick work of Chad Reiner in his Octagon debut with a 12-second first round knockout at UFC Fight Night 10 back in June 2007.

Sandwiched between those fights Johnson lost to Rich Clementi at UFC 76: “Knockout” via submission (rear naked choke) in a catchweight bout that was contested at 177 pounds because it was scheduled on short notice.

Burns — a banker by day and fighter by night — burst on to the scene with an impressive submission win over veteran and Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist, Roan Carneiro, at UFC 85: “Bedlam” earlier this month on just two weeks notice.

    That’s impressive.

He’ll likely look to take this fight to the ground as soon as possible to avoid the heavy-handed attack of Johnson.</div>

Shaping up to be a good one, sure to steal a lot of viewers from Affliction. I will definately be watching this instead of the Affliction PPV, Silva at 205 and Vera at 205? its gonna be sick.

I'm sure this has some of the good fighters on it, that it does, because of the Affliction PPV going on at the same time. The good fighters, combined with not costing to watch give me a good reason to tune into this UFC Fight Night over Affliction. I don't usually try to be such a cheap skate, but in this case I will make exception.

a few more fights added, a lot of who? vs who? fights

Welterweights James Giboo (11-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) Vs Brad Blackburn (12-9-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC)

Giboo, an Iowa-based fighter who's fought in the Midwest's top regional promotions, is currently riding a six-fight win streak. The 30-year-old has balanced a fighting career with duties as a high school biology teacher and wrestling coach. The noted ground fighter has finished nine of his 11 career victories via submission, most by rear-naked or triangle choke.

Blackburn, a former IFL fighter based out of Seattle, trains under Maurice Smith with Andy Reese, who will meet Brandon Vera at the same July 19 event. The 31-year-old has lost just once in his past five fights, which included a victory over highly touted IFL welterweight Jay Hieron in June 2007.

Middleweights Johnny Rees (10-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs Nate Loughran (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Two UFC newcomers with a combined 18 stoppage victories in 18 career fights, will meet at UFC Fight Night 14.

Rees, a veteran of the Indiana-based Legends of Fighting and United Fight League organizations, turned pro in October 2005 and has reeled off 10 consecutive victories -- eight via submission and seven in the first round. He'll now fight for the first time since a November 2007 victory over Jeremy Wingler (7-3) at LOF 22.

Loughran, a veteran of Gladiator Challenge and Palace Fighting Championship, has posted eight consecutive victories -- seven via submission and six in the first round. In his most recent fight, he picked up the PFC middleweight title with a second-round submission victory over Kenny Ento (9-4).

"The winner of the fight will be the fans," said Ken Pavia, Rees' agent. "Between the two of them, they are 18-0 with 18 definitive finishes. (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva did a great job with this fight. I am excited for Johnny because a win over Nate really puts him on the map and puts him closer to his dream of wearing a UFC strap. The kid is legit."

Lightweight fighters Shannon Gugherty (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) VS Dale Hartt (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC)

Gugherty, a longtime veteran of the Total Combat organization, fights out of San Diego with City Boxing. He's currently riding a six-fight win streak, which includes six stoppages (four of which came in the first round).

Gugherty kickstarted his career with a victory over WEC contender Cub Swanson, and in his most recent fight, he delivered Johnny Torres (5-1) his first career loss.

Hartt, who's competed recently for Full Force Productions in Massachusetts, trains under UFC welterweight Marcus Davis in Maine. The 29-year-old is a perfect 5-0 with five stoppages since turning pro in 2004.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Submission specialist Brodie Farber (13-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and former IFL welterweight fighter Rory Markham (14-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) have signed to meet at the event, which takes place at The Palms Las Vegas and airs on Spike TV.

Farber, a former Rage in the Cage middleweight champion, is riding a six-fight win streak. All six wins came in the Mexico-based MMA Xtreme organization. Three of the victories came via knockout and three via submission. In fact, he's won eight of his past nine fights -- and all the victories came via first-round stoppage.

Markham, a Team Miletich fighter based in Iowa, fought eight times for the IFL, going 6-2. Earlier this month, he fought -- and submitted -- Jay Ellis at Adrenaline MMA's debut event at the Sears Centre Arena near Chicago. The hard-hitting 26-year-old and aspiring actor will have just five weeks between bouts.</div>

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Jesse Taylor vs. C.B. Dollaway at UFC Fight Night 14

"The Ultimate Fighter 7" runner-up C.B. Dollaway (6-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will meet ousted finalist Jesse Taylor (6-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at a recently announced UFC Fight Night 14 event.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the July 19 fight with sources close to both fighters.

UFC Fight Night 14, which features a main event between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and James Irvin (in a non-title light-heavyweight bout), takes place at The Palms Las Vegas and was organized to counter the "Affliction: Banned" card.

The Taylor-Dollaway fight had been rumored for much of the past week.

Taylor, who defeated Tim Credeur for a ticket into the finals of "The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs. Team Forrest," was kicked out of the finals when Dana White received a tape of the drunken fighter kicking out a window of a limousine and harassing guests at Palace Station, a casino owned by Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, the UFC's primary owners. The rampage took place after the show finished airing.

White, though, said he planned to give Taylor a second chance.

It'll come with Dollaway, the guy who defeated Credeur to take Taylor's spot in the live finale. There, Dollaway suffered a defeat to show winner Amir Sadollah -- the same fighter who knocked him out of the show's semifinal round. It was the Arizona State University All-American wrestker's first career loss.</div>

wow Dana sure taught Jessie a lesson.. he had to wait 3 months to be brought back to the UFC... [IMG]

looks to be a grappling battle for sure.. so most likely they'll stand up the whole time [IMG]

Hoping for a double-knockout with CB and Jesse. I'd rather not see either of them again.

Well I would have wanted to watch this over Affliction even if Anderson Silva wasn`t on the card. It`s free too lol.

Anderson Silva - a killer and up a weight class so he is gonna have it hard.
Hermes Franca, returns to the UFC and I enjoy this guys fights
Vera - now at LHW and is pretty skilled.

and JT Money vs. CB Dollaway.

Dana's comments on Jessie and why he's back

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Jesse Taylor’s drunken behavior during Season 7 of The Ultimate Fighter cost him a spot in the finale against Amir Sadollah. But, it turns out, the ramifications were much greater. UFC president Dana White, who said Tuesday that Taylor will return from his exile to fight C.B. Dollaway on the July 19 card at the Palms in Las Vegas that is airing on Spike, plans to get tough with any fighters in the future who damage the TUF house.

It has become something of a tradition during the filming of the reality series for the fighters to trash the house. Though several fighters said they were indirectly encouraged to do so, White vehemently denied the fighters were ever told how to act in any way. He said repairs to the staircase that was damaged during Season 7 cost nearly $70,000. He said fighters of Season 8 – which completed filming last week and will begin airing in September – were told they’d have to pay for any damage they did.

“Whoever told you we encouraged them to tear up the house is (an expletive) liar,” White said. “Nobody ever told them what to do on the show. A lot of guys, they get off the show and they’re embarrassed by what they’ve done. And think about this: I’ve faced a lot of challenges since we’ve had the UFC, but I have a kid (Taylor) who pissed his pants on television and now I have to turn him into a star.”

White said he used to drink and act rowdy when he was in his early 20s and doesn’t want to imagine what he might have done had he been on a television show. But he called the destruction of the house “retarded” and said “there was no sense or purpose to what they did.”

White said Taylor enrolled in Alcoholics Anonymous and worked hard to rebuild his reputation.

“Without a doubt, the kid deserves another chance,” White said. “He made himself look like a fool, and he’s aware of that, but everyone deserves another opportunity and we’re going to give it to him. He acted like a moron. He’s embarrassed by it, which he should be, but what he did doesn’t amount to enough to ban him forever. Come on. He was just young and stupid, but at least he seems to have learned from what he did.”</div>

Vernon White is out of his scheduled fight with Little Nog, and TUF alum Edwin Dewees will take his place.

This will be the biggest night of fights in a long time.
