<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In an interview toward the end of the regular season, Bynum said he wanted to stay with the team and did not necessarily expect a maximum contract extension of about $80 million."I just want to be a Laker," he said. "As long as they treat me right, it doesn't matter. It doesn't have to be max [money] for me. I just want to be able to live comfortably and take care of my family."</div>

Well hopefully he stays true to these words when extension time comes. As of now, it's just talk, but I like the thought [IMG]

That's what HE says .. but that's not what his AGENT will say ... Agents are very influential over their clients come negotiation time, so we'll see how this plays out

Erm. Actually if I remember correctly the agent gets like 4% of the contract.

I think this also has something to do with LA's slight health concerns with him.

If the Lakers don't want to give him max I'm sure some terrible team will have no problem throwing max money at him in free agency. Why even negotiate?

If Bynum wants to stay a Laker then he wont have to listen to other offers.

All the lakers need to do is "treat him right"

But if i were the lakers i'd put something on the table this summer just to see if he'd accept it. A respectable amount of course.

Umm, what has he done to deserve a max contract anyway. Sure he's good, but talks of a max contract are premature...also considering that he hasn't been able to stay health in his brief time in the League. I'm not knocking his potential, I think if he can stay health he has a bright future, but talks of a Max right now? oooo weee!!!

Lol. Treat him right? So if they give him a nice bouquet of red roses, a bottle of 1977 Bordeux and ask him to close his eyes while signing a MLE-level 6 year contract he'll be satisfied?

    Hmmm he might LOL

The big difference is this summer and next summer. While we can offer an extension this summer, i think everyone (lakers FO, bynum's agent etc) want to see how he performs next year. The only down side of this for the LAkers is if Bynum puts up ridiculous offers and is thus tempted to ask for the max. But if Bynum performs poorly then im sure he'd get a Kwame Brown type deal LOL

I really hope we sign him THIS summer. LOL It would definitely be cheaper.

Heh, the issue here is that Bynum is only 20. He couldn't even enjoy that bottle of Bordeux.

As it is, I'm hoping we can get him for somewhere in the range of 50-60mil. I for one, doubt that any team is going to throw max money at him. He's had a good half season and then has shown flashes on numerous occasions. Plus, I'm betting a lot of teams might be scared away by the knee.
