So today is a Mets off day, so the Mets' network, SNY aired a game between the Brooklyn Mets and the Staten Island Yankees. With the Yankees up 7-2 in the 9th, the Yankees brought in pitcher Pat Venditte to close things out. Venditte is an unusual pitcher. He is ambidextrous and pitches in games with both hands. He wears a six-fingered glove and switches it depending on which side he is pitching from. So he gets the first two outs against right handers and another righty gets a hit. The next batter was switch-hitter Ralph Henriquez, who comes to the plate left-handed. So Venditte switches his glove and prepares to pitch lefty to Henriquez. Henriquez gives him a strange look, then shrugs and jumps to the other batters box to bat righty. So Venditte switches, and Henriquez switches and so on... After three times both of them start yelling at the umpire and the managers come out of the dugout. A 10 minute delay ensues. Finally Henriquez bats righty against the righty Vendette and strikes out to end the game. I looked up the rule, and it seems that once Venditte threw a pitch, Henriquez could have switched to lefty and Venditte would have had to stay a righty to the conclusion of the at bat. Of course, nobody knew that. Watching both guys jumping back and forth was hilarious! I love baseball.
lol wow, I would've loved to see that, I checked earlier to see if the Mets were playing and they weren't, info panel said "Minor League Baseball", so I just switched to ESPN...damn, hope to see it on youtube though
If the guy can pitch equally well with both arms, he could conceiveable take up 2 spots in the rotation and pitch every 3 days....he could be an amazing asset, kind of like Wakefields inning eating is for the Red Sox's.... <div align="center"><div><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8U2xkHOTvvw&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8U2xkHOTvvw&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" /></embed></object></div></div>

Hes only 23 and just got drafted out of Creighton.
I watched the first couple innings of that game and shut it off when Mike Schmidt started talking about his prostate. Side Note: How about that one guy named Melky Mesa. His whole first name is "Melquisedec". Melquisedec Mesa. Oh boy.

The rule is that the pitcher has to declare which hand he will pitch with before the at bat. The funniest thing is that Venditte knows that, but when he realizes the umpires do not, he starts yelling at them and lying - telling them that he knows the rule and it's up to the batter to change. They're like two little kid, arguing, and they both have to get the last word. "Is too!" "Is not!" "Is too!" "Is not!" and so on... Crazy...

It's too bad that the ad agency sucks at refining the little things. The logo on the catcher switches sides, and there is an obvious jump after the hit.
