Red Sox to honor Celtics on Friday at Fenway <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Boston Red Sox plan to honor their basketball brethren before Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Fenway Park. While no specifics were mentioned, a media advisory sent by the Sox indicated there would be a pregame ceremony to "recognize and honor the achievements of the 2008 NBA World Champion Boston Celtics." While no specific players are listed, the release indicated that the 2008 Celtics will be joined by team owners and alumni. The Celtics and Red Sox have mingled many times over the past year, including when Kevin Garnett (above, with David Ortiz) and Ray Allen threw out ceremonial first pitches last season after being acquired by the Celtics via trades. Red Sox players and owners have been spotted at Celtics games throughout the season, including much of the Celtics' run through the playoffs.</div>
What did the ceremony entail? I watched the game and liked the green uniforms, but I wasn't early enough (or maybe it wasn't televised) to catch the celebration itself. On a more general note, I like how even the Sox are showing their support for the other hometown team in their time of victory. That widespread celebration is something that seems pretty unique to Boston, and I love it.
I missed it too, was at work. Here is what I was able to find. Celtics co-owner and managing partner Steve Pagliuca looks over the team's trophies at a pregame party inside The Bleacher Bar at Fenway. Celtics guard Ray Allen arrives at The Bleacher Bar at Fenway Park for a private pregame party. Paul Pierce was in a bouncy mood at Fenway Park as he prepared to throw a ceremonial pitch that capped festivities in which the Red Sox honored the Celtics for their NBA crown. Pierce had plenty of support from the Celtics’ entourage: (from left) Eddie House, Tom Thibodeau, Kendrick Perkins, Armond Hill, Gabe Pruitt, Scot Pollard, Kevin Garnett, and James Posey. When you’re an NBA champ, you can call yourself safe, as Paul Pierce did on his faux steal of second base during pregame ceremonies honoring the Celtics. The NBA champion Celtics wisely rode duck boats as it rained on the parade of (left to right) Kendrick Perkins, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett during pregame ceremonies at Fenway Park.
