we can't seriously have danilo gallineri and robin lopez rated higher then anthony randolph. I mean we get to see what chris bosh can do 4 games a year. anthony randolph is a legit 6'10 & 1/2 unbelievable athlete, runs the court like a gazelle and will be the best ball handling big man in the league once he gets an nba jersey. he was a monster on the glass in a tough conference and a tremendous shot blocker.... whats not to like

He has scored poorly in his psychological testing, says Ford. That's one reason he is dropping. The other is that he is rail thin and the Nets don't think he currently has an NBA position. Gallinari is a more finished product...some say the most NBA-ready player in the draft. That's why.

Also, kissmynenads, if he has such good handle, how come an "expert" said this: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Turnover prone.</div>on the Nets' site? And how come he averaged 3 TO/PG, with only 1.2 APG?

The mean of the 3/4 court spring was 3.265 seconds at the pre-draft camp. Randolph ran a 3.26 3/4 court spring. The mean of the vertical leap test was 35''. Randolph's leap was 36''. Hardly an "unbelievable athlete".
I like Anthony Randolph as a prospect, but I'd also prefer a guy who can contribute right away. <div><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/V8HrnRk8jpY&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/V8HrnRk8jpY&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" /></embed></object></div> At first he looks good, but a lot of this is being done with either A) no defense, or B) no weak side defender (BIG DIFFERENCE). Also, the only NCAA 3-point shots they showed...were actually the same clip showed twice
i think donte greene is better then Randolph and we can get some one better for 10 and then get greene if he falls down to 21

I couldn't see him getting past Cleveland...let alone GS.

He wont be the best ball handling big man in the NBA. My guess is something in the Charlie Villanueva mold except that Villanueva has a more diverse, and effective offensive skill set. These "raw, athletic" big men don't usually pan out. They need to be able to do something well. Randolph's body will be a liability and especially with SW already on the team, it doesn't make sense. No, its plain stupid. Get someone who is NBA ready and has a skill set to contribute in some capacity. Not Randolph.
you can all say these raw athletic big men dont pan out. but im pretty sure i can find just as many if not more unathletic european projects that are failures. gallinari doesnt play defense in italy do you think he will actually be able to guard in anyone in the nba. Anthony Randolph is Unskilled? ball handling isn't a skill ? shot blocking isn't a skill? rebounding isn't a skill? the kid averaged 15.6 pts and 8.5 rebounds and 2.3 blks in his freshman year so dont make it seem like he is a deandre jordan type of project. chris bosh averaged 15.6 pts 9.0 rebs and 2.2 blks per game in his freshman year, its scary how similar the numbers are. he measured 6'9 and a half without sneakers and 6'10 1/2 with sneakers. last time i checked most people play with them on. he does not have 3 pt range but has a developing mid range game..... also anyone who doubts his ball handling skills have not seen him play. His foot speed with the ball in his possesion is what makes the difference. he is just as ready as gallinari to contribute to an NBA team http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8KRal8WSTU"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8KRal8WSTU and on a side note even if you still do not like randolph there is no way you justify taking someone who has no defensive potential in the lottery. its proven year after year that defense wins championships. so why would we start our rebuilding process with someone who doesn't play any
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Kid Chocolate @ Jun 21 2008, 07:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>"No defensive potential?" Why? Because he's European?</div> More like limited due to his marginal lateral speed.
By John Hollinger ESPN Insider "Between Me and the Scouts, One of Us Will Look Like an Idiot Anthony Randolph, LSU, 9.85 Yes, this is true. Seen in many quarters as a high lottery pick, Randolph has virtually nothing in his statistical record to justify such a lofty selection. In particular, his woeful ball-handling numbers are a major red flag. Randolph had more turnovers than any prospect except Beasley and Thompson, but those two players had every play run through them; I'm still waiting to find out Randolph's excuse. Additionally, his 49.9 true shooting percentage is alarmingly bad for a guy who is supposed to dominate athletically. He can block shots, and the fact his team was such a mess probably didn't help his numbers any, but gambling on Randolph with a high first-round pick looks like the basketball equivalent of hitting on 19 in blackjack. Hey, maybe the dealer throws out a 2 and everyone thinks you're a genius, but chances are you're going to bust. It appears he's going to be drafted in the middle of the first round at worst, but even that appears to be a terrible mistake -- there is no track record whatsoever of a player rated this poorly achieving pro success." http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008/i...aftRater-080620
According to Hollinger's system, that would make Anthony Randolph the lowest rated big man, since the rating system was invented (2002), to get drafted. By far.

It is a system he has come up with based on numerous variables to project how good a player is going to be. The point of the article, which you have clearly not read, is to show that out the hundreds of players he has put through this system, over the past 6 years, no big man with his rating has come even close to getting drafted much less being a lottery pick. So his question is, how is this possible? Obviously there are things that Randolph does well, but based on his statistics he should not even be drafted. Stress on the statistics.
