I don't know what a front court of Bosh and O'Neal would be like. They are both good but unspectacular rebounders and they are jumpshooters. But they both get to the free throw line a lot and O'Neal had a 55-point explosion in Milwaukee a few years back. For two years I would take him--the risk isn't that high, considering we're giving up a mid-first in a flat draft and a point guard that is more trouble here than gone. With Garbo's expiring contract gone this might be the most we can do with Rasho "Let's NBA" Nesterovic's expriring deal.
Also, Chris Bosh is in favour of the deal. Maybe not in favour of seeing certain players leave the squad, but in favour of adding O'Neal. He says he'd be the finesse four and O'Neal could be the power five. He also thinks that one of Ford or Calderon need to go, which I think is surprising for him to say, but honest. This rumour has legs. We might make a pick at 17 later this week and then have David Stern come to the podium in the mid-twenties and announce a trade... hat dance!

Anyways, another caveat to this deal: supposedly because of his contract option O'Neal can't be dealt until July, meaning we might see our pick made on Bird's behalf and then shipped out later.

The fact that ESPN picked up on this makes me feel like it has more to it than most rumours (they try their best to not talk about the Raptors). That stipulation on Jermaine's contract makes things difficult though (if the Pacers are adamant about recieving a pick).
I'd be hesitant about this deal if I were the Raps. At the very least, the Pacers should not be receiving the 17th pick. Jermaine O'Neal, in my honest opinion, is pretty much done. When was the last time he was healthy? He always seems to be rehabbing or sitting out because of some type of injury. I remember him coming out last offseason saying that he was in the best shape of his life (or something like that), only to sit out pretty much the rest of the season after playing like 10 or 15 games. The old Jermaine O'Neal, before the injuries, was a great player. I'm not so sure if he can be like the old Jermaine anymore. His body seems to be pretty worn out to me. Also, the idea of him being a great post defender is false, like cpawn pointed out. I remember a game last season when the Lakers played against the Pacers, and Andrew Bynum pretty much schooled Jermaine offensively and defensively. Jermaine could not stop Bynum at all on defense, and on offense, he was pretty much non-existant. I believe Bynum blocked his shot two times in a row. He looked old and very sluggish All I'm saying is, don't set your expectations up too high for Jeramine, because I don't think he's going to give you guys much. Maybe playing alongside Chris Bosh will make him look better? Btw, I remember last offseason when Larry Bird was asking for both Lamar Odom AND Andrew Bynum. lol
Dang I haven't been here in a while LOL. Anyways.. as long as we find a solid back up point gaurd to Calderon, I don't mind this trade at all. I'm hoping playing along with Bosh will mentally revitalize JO, and he'll return to his old form.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Arvq...o&type=lgns <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Talks between the Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers about a trade that would have included Jermaine O?€™Neal and T.J. Ford fell apart on Monday afternoon, a league executive with knowledge of the negotiations said. For the past two days, Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo had been pushing the idea of sending Ford, Rasho Nesterovic and the No. 17 pick in Thursday?€™s draft for O?€™Neal. For a few hours on Monday, there was a sense that the deal was close, but ultimately concerns over the damaged state of O?€™Neal and Ford were too much to consummate the trade. The Pacers were concerned about Ford?€™s future with his past neck injuries, but were willing to start rebuilding without O?€™Neal and the $44 million owed him over the next two years. O?€™Neal played just 42 games a year ago, because of a left knee injury. The trade would have given Indiana the 11th and 17th picks in the draft, allowing Indiana to take a point guard and a forward. The Raptors have been one of the league?€™s most active teams in trying to move up in the draft, and they?€™ve made no secret about their desire to move Ford and make restricted free agent Jose Calderon the point guard of the future.</div> Lucky bastards.
JRS! What is good my man. I would love this deal, if we didn't give up the pick. I say For and Rasho is good for JO who has been injured. If we get JO and keep the pick, we're golden. We have a great 1-2 punch up front and possibly CDR or BRush. Along with Calderon, Bargnani and Moon. Shit, I love this.
think of this, Calderon pick and roll with either JO and Bosh, and the other grabs whatever rebound there is sick but this rumor will pop up again at draft day, they always do
Doug Smith isn't letting this one go without a fight: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>As was written in the very first installment of the Ford-O’Neal saga, the deal is not imminent, there are other teams in the mix for T.J. and no one knows for sure whether it’ll be consummated. That said, the discussion with the Pacers are real, the Raptors do have a lot of interest in O’Neal (if his knee’s healthy) and it could start percolating again any minute.</div> http://thestar.blogs.com/raptors/2008/06/c...ing-up-fro.html
