"Those likely to be available via trade that fit under the $10 million exception include Ron Artest, Marcus Camby, Nene, Leandro Barbosa, Boris Diaw, Mike Miller and Tayshaun Prince. If the Warriors let their exception expire and still want to add a big name without increasing payroll - Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups, Shawn Marion, Richard Jefferson and Michael Redd also are likely to be on the block, albeit at heftier prices - then Al Harrington could be the player most likely to move."

Is there a trade in Warriors plans?

    Interesting.

I am not sure how the cap situation is going to work since the Warriors seem pretty strong on keeping Biedrins and Ellis. But can we go over the cap to keep Ellis and Biedrins (as in do we have their Bird Rights - I think it's called)? Would Cohan be looking to go spend a lot of money? I recall he had some lawsuit or something where he was supposed to lose quite a bit of money (maybe it was the IRS).

But I like the names you threw out there.

The cap is something to be concerned about because Mullin is committed to keeping Monta and AB and we have many holes on the bench to fill. Mullin has said he wants to bring Azubuike back. The Warriors are already committed to about $48 M (includes Foyle's $9.75 M), so even though Mullin said he'll go the max to re-sign Monta and AB, I think he's bluffing. He doesn't want to deal with those kind of numbers and try to field a playoff team on top of that. The only way Cohan would pay the luxury tax is if he believes the team can make it to the WC Championship and we're not close to that with the guys we have signed:
    PG: Baron
    SG: SJax, Belinelli
    SF: Harrington
    PF: BWright
    C: Biedrins

For cap purposes, we would have to look at the salary slots to fill in 2008/09:
    Signed:
    Baron Davis ................. $17.180,000
    Adonal Foyle ................ $9,750,000 [released 8/13/07]
    Al Harrington ............... $9,226,250
    Stephen Jackson ............. $7,140,000
    Andris Biedrins ............. $3,609,636 - QUALIFYING
    Brandan Wright .............. $2,497,320
    Marco Belinelli ............. $1,446,720
    TOTAL ......................... $47,240,290

    Slots to Fill (2007/2008 salaries):
    Mickael Pietrus ............. $3,470,770 - UNRESTRICTED
    Matt Barnes ................. $3,000,000 - UNRESTRICTED
    Patrick O'Bryant ............ $2,216,400 - UNRESTRICTED
    Kosta Perovic ............... $1,800,000
    Austin Croshere ............. $1,219,590 [minimum, counts $770,610]
    Troy Hudson ................. $1,219,590 [min, c $770,610, r 1/29/08]
    Monta Ellis ................. $770,610 [minimum] - RESTRICTED
    Kelenna Azubuike ............ $687,456 [minimum] - RESTRICTED
    Chris Webber ................ $602,173 [min, c $380,489, s 1/29/08]
    DJ Mbenga ................... $249,478 [m, c $240,816, s 11/17-1/6]
    C.J. Watson ................. $125,479 [minimum, signed 1/8/08]
    Stephane Lasme .............. $48,056 [released 11/17/07]

Draft day is going to be interesting. I honestly have no idea how our cap situation, draft pick, and potential trade pieces will all come together. All I know is that Al Harrington is the most expendable player on the signed roster at the moment.

I'd love to have Rasheed Wallace on this team, but I think I'm alone in this.

Getting Sheed would fill our most glaring need! He makes more than the TPE, so Mullin probably would have to move Harrington and filler in order to make the deal work and he could let the TPE lapse in order to accommodate his salary. Maybe we can get Sheed without giving up the draft pick. It would've been better if Mullin had made a qualifying offer to POB, so that he would be easier to include in a trade.

    PG: Baron
    SG: Monta (re-signed)
    SF: Jax
    PF: Sheed, BW
    C: AB

Draft Brandon Rush and Kyle Weaver and we would be set.

    Looks like a contender!!!

Playoff team. But contender? idk, depends what the bench is going to look like. Definitely an improvement with sheed and AB up front.

I'm definitely with you there. If we were to trade Al + 14 pick + filler (Perovic?) or something like that for Sheed then I'd be all for it. Problem is thats probably not enough to get him. Sheed would give us a PF who can post up, rebound, block shots, play great defense in the post, spread the floor (key for Don Nelson as a PF/C) and hes a veteran ready to contribute now. If we were to add Sheed and get production off the bench from Wright/Beli/Azu that would be a pretty formidable team considering last year's squad still won 47 games after starting 0-6 and no bench and no starting PF. Then at the end of the season Baron's contract is up, Sheed's contract is up, and Nellie's contract is up and we have options as to where we should go next.

If we get defense and some resemblance of a post game at the 4, we're definitely going places. Look at what Memphis was able to do with just Paul Gasol and no real clutch performing stars outside of an aging Eddie Jones and maybe super role players Shane Battier/Mike Miller.

I'm down with Sheed if it doesn't cost us Wright, Ellis, Biedrins, or Marco. Sjax should be off limits unless we can find a better swingman, but I think chemistry wise it's not good to look at replacing him. Same thing with Baron. Not yet.

I'd still like to see Artest on the team (never imagined I'd say that two years ago), and maybe Mike Miller. Sheed yes if you can steal him, but no way for BW. I just hope the Warriors don't draft a big man in the first round, the potential for a wasted pick is too high with Nelson.

Wait. I just found out Sheed's gonna turn 34 this September. Al, who's is 28 this year should get it done.

That's what I'm saying. Sheed may be our best post player but he's not going to take the Ws to the finals. I definately do not want to take minutes away from Wright or Biedrins for him. I'd rather get a physical, energy big off the bench and a backup wing.

At 14, I'd like to get Rush but if we can somehow trade for Miller I'd like to see Robin Lopez. It may be a bit of a reach for him but I think he's exactly what we need (if I didn't hate Varejao so much I'd say he'd fill that role perfectly too).

I was hoping Sheed could be a role player/mentor in the way of Clif Robinson. Maybe his skills might rub off on Wright. Some of the young guns might do better if they had better, more experienced players give them tips and work with them in practice.
