If they are locked into taking Brook Lopez, wouldn't you rather they make a trade like this than take him at #3?

I thought the Grizzlies could have done the same thing last year with Mike Conley, but nothing ever happened.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>If the Minnesota Timberwolves keep the No. 3 pick it appears they’ve focused – at least for now – on taking Mayo. League sources also say the Los Angeles Clippers could offer to package their No. 7 pick along with their 2009 first-round pick (protected) and possibly the future pick they are owed by Minnesota (top 10 protected) to move up and select Mayo.</div>

I just read that, haha. So that the Wolves would be getting the No. 7, a 2009 pick, and their own future 1st round pick traded to the Clippers in the Jaric-Cassell trade.

IMO that'd be a pretty sweet deal for Minny, if they play their cards right.

man they better not...their best bet is getting Mayo. That pick is protected until 2010, unless Minnesota's pick falls out of the top 10. We already have Miami's and Boston's 1st rounders for next year...how many to we need?...lol

IMO if they pass on Mayo, they'll regret it within 3 years.

Lopez will be average at best and possible outclassed in the NBA.

giving up a shot at a potential all-star to acquire a top 10 protected pick?
    absurd.

The way to get better is to get the best talent you can. Not acquire a bunch of mediocre talent.
you need a superstar to go far in this league unless you have 4 all-stars like the Pistons.

yeah, they would. They might regret it even sooner when the already bad ticket sales drop even more. The fan base wants Mayo, we love Big Al and he puts up numbers but we also want that cocky, highlight providing super-star to to take the floor and provide the flash to Big Al's substance. A stupid move like this would have the fans (who already lack confidence in our managment) ready to just give up on our Wolves...mayo is who the fans want and is an outstanding talent....why even think of anything else?

Minnesota needs to think about what to do with their 2nd Rounders. Either package them to move up in the draft or add one in a deal to get inside help....either way....we need to get Mayo!

there is also the outside possibility that beasley COULD drop (though unlikely)

depends if Riley is blowing smoke about not loving Beasley or not.

I'm all for Beasley going to Minnesota...i just don't want them trading away Mayo for Lopez or Love....ugh.

but that brings me to the idea making a trade with Miami.

Each team drafts then deals their picks:

    Miami trades: Beasley

Minnesota trades: Mayo, Miami's 1st Rounder back for next year and possibly the #34 pick.

Both teams get who they really wanted (after Rose...of course [IMG] ) and Miami gets back their pick for next year and possibly a 2nd round rounder

    Whatcha think
