They lucked out with Danny Granger a couple years back. Now this.

And they better fucking not back out of that deal. I'll be so pissed if they do.

Bobcats gamble with Augustin at No. 9
Thursday, June 26, 2008 08:39 PM

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Michael Jordan is a gambling man. This time, he rolled the dice with D.J. Augustin.

An executive with the Charlotte Bobcats, Jordan grabbed Texas guard Augustin with the ninth overall selection in Thursday's NBA draft at Madison Square Garden.

Perhaps the greatest player in NBA history, Jordan has been maligned for his draft prowess with the Washington Wizards and now the Bobcats.

Jordan had tabbed the disappointing Kwame Brown with the top overall pick for the Wizards in 2001. This selection may be just as head-scratching.

With talented 7-footer Brook Lopez still on the board, Charlotte took undersized point guard Augustin, who will have to play behind emerging floor general Raymond Felton. He will have to earn his playing time.

But Augustin does have positive attributes.

A genuine point guard who looks to make his teammates better, Augustin showed as much as a freshman at Texas, which boasted phenom Kevin Durant two seasons ago. Augustin deferred to Durant and showed an ability to get his superstar teammate shots.

That's his greatest strength - he puts team in front of self. However, his 5-11 stature makes him a long shot to succeed as a starter in the NBA. Most point guards under six feet have above-average athletic ability, something Augustin sorely lacks.

Nets add size with Brook Lopez at 10th pick
Thursday, June 26, 2008 08:39 PM

NEW YORK (Ticker) - The New Jersey Nets had a goal to get bigger - and succeeded on two counts Thursday.

The Nets addressed a need for size by selecting 7-footer Brook Lopez of Stanford with the No. 10 overall pick in the NBA draft.

Earlier in the day, New Jersey added another 7-footer, sending Richard Jefferson to the Milwaukee Bucks for last year's No. 6 overall pick, Yi Jianlian of China, and forward Bobby Simmons.

Lopez, who played alongside his twin brother Robin wat Stanford, led the defensive-minded Cardinal in scoring (19.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.2) while finishing just behind Robin in blocks (2.1).

As with most players that come out of Stanford, he is fundamentally sound. Already possessing a decent assortment of inside moves, Lopez can keep a defender honest with his ability to hit a jumper from 15 feet.

Despite missing the first nine games last season due to academic eligibility issues, Lopez scored 20 or more points 13 times and topped the 30-point mark in four contests.
