The Sacramento Kings are convinced he can do the same in the NBA. The Kings pulled off one of the bigger surprises at the top of the first round, selecting Thompson with the No. 12 overall pick in Thursday's NBA draft. Thompson put up gaudy numbers in his junior and senior seasons, averaging 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. But that was for Rider, which plays in the mid-major Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Despite playing against inferior competition, Thompson finished second in the nation to Michael Beasley - the No. 2 overall pick - with 12.1 rebounds per game last campaign. The MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, the 6-10, 245-pound Thompson showed a good post presence and can hit an open mid-range jumper. Thompson scored in double figures in every game and had a double-double in 24 of 34 contests last season, going over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for his career - which bodes well for a team that needs help inside.
They were smart picking the BPA in Bayless. But they knew when trading for Ford, that he needs to be the starter. He's had it in his head for a while now.

The emerging Portland Trail Blazers selected Kansas swingman Rush with the 13th overall pick in the NBA draft Thursday at Madison Square Garden. A key component in the Jayhawks' run to a national title, Rush averaged at least 13.3 points during each of his three seasons in college. He scored 25 points in Kansas' national semifinal win over North Carolina. Rush may have similar success ahead of him with Portland, which had a surprising season in 2007-08 - and that was without last year's top overall pick Greg Oden, who will return next season. The 6-7 Rush suffered a torn ACL after his sophomore season, which prevented him from entering the NBA draft last year. Now healed, he should be a solid addition to the Blazers. Always under control with the ball, Rush has solid athleticism and is a decent shooter. He made 44 percent of his 3-pointers during his three-year career at Kansas. Rush is a good defender but disappeared at times in the Jayhawks' balanced offensive attack. On the positive side, he can play shooting guard or small forward.

The Warriors used the 14th overall pick to selected slender forward Anthony Randolph of Louisiana State. The word upside was created for the reed-thin 6-10 Randolph, who weighs in at just 197 pounds. However, he was an explosive talent in his only season at LSU, averaging 15.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Despite his raw skills and obvious need to get stronger, Randolph is a scout's dream in workouts - running the floor with tremendous speed for his size and finishing around the rim with ease. Randolph is an adept shot-blocker and also handles the ball like someone much shorter, allowing for him to get to the basket with little trouble. The selection of Randolph follows a pattern for the Warriors, who selected Brandan Wright with their top pick a year ago - a player with an almost identical body to Randolph.
Isn't that a bit of a reach for the Raps, especially after bringing in O'neal? Well, you guys deserve it. Ha. EDIT: I forgot they're trading the pick to Indiana. My bad. I'm still unfocused since the Nets' pick.

I'm confused with some of the moves Toronto has made. I thought they were trying to be a Phoenix Suns light and play uptempo. However the deal for JO and now the pick of Roy Hibbert doesn't seem to fit that mold. Are they changing their game plan or what? I understand TJ had to go but meh I'm confused. EDIT: OKay now i know its going to Indiana, fair enough!
