    Celtics tab Giddens with No. 30 selection
    Thursday, June 26, 2008 10:44 PM

    NEW YORK (Ticker) - The Boston Celtics could afford to take a chance. Winning an NBA championship gives a team that luxury.

    With the 30th - and final - pick in the first round of the NBA draft, the Celtics selected high-scoring guard J.R. Giddens of New Mexico.

    The 6-5 Giddens earned Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year honors as a senior, averaging 16.3 points and a league-leading 8.8 rebounds per game.

    After spending his first two years at Kansas, where he averaged 11.3 and 10.1 points, respectively, Giddens sat out a year after transferring to New Mexico.

    He flourished with the Lobos, posting 11 double-doubles as a senior and showing a well-rounded game. Giddens shot nearly 52 percent from the floor, averaged 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.

    In the first round of the National Invitation Tournament last season, he lit up California for 26 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

    Please, if we get JO and CDR, I'll be so happy. I'll need some sigs and avys, but I'll be happy.

If posters create them, I'll definitely link to them in the first page but that's about it.</div>

    I'm just going to create one for Nikola Peković and some other top talents. That's about it. Where are you getting the quick information for the threads that I can post it?
    </div>
    There were headlines from S2's home page, but they've been coming up slower lately. Now I just create the thread and wait for the headline to show up, which I add in afterwards.

    SportsTicker only does the 1st round picks, we're done.

    I like the Bulls chances of getting a good player with their 2nd pick.

    Just wondering, but why are you so high on this kid? He's got talent, but he's a huge project and should have stayed in school for at least another year.
    </div>
    Cause he's a low risk-high reward player who we can get for cheap.
    </div>
    Wrong, he's a huge risk. However, since we're in the 2nd round, it's not as bad. My big issue with him though is that he can't score. He's got a bunch of talent, but should have stayed longer.

As a fellow Bulls fan, who are you looking for with their 39th pick? I'm really hoping to see Walker, Jordan, or CDR fall to us, personally.</div>

    CDR for sure, maybe Jordan, but I'd like to see us take a risk with Ömer Aşık if neither are available.
    </div>
    Definitely hoping for CDR. However, I really like Bill Walker. If he hadn't been injured, I think he'd have been a first rounder, and if he stays next year, he's a definite first rounder in my opinion. He's got all sorts of potential, and I think it'd be very difficult to pass on him.

    As for Jordan, I love his talent, but he's so raw.

    And with CDR, I'd love him too. He's NBA ready and would potentially make Ben Gordon pretty expendable.
    </div>

    Well, Jordan is gone now and I'm still interested in the tall Turk though. I was hoping we'd get him in the second round weeks ago if a few other players I wanted were picked already when we're up.

    If he waz a top 10 pick he'd be a huge risk, in the second he a low-high reward player

    I'll be very happy if the Nets pick either Walker or CDR with their pick. It'll fix a tiny bit of my post-Lopez depression.

    I think I'll post one thread that summarizes what each team ended up with, when the draft is finished. Thanks Denny.

    Did Portland pass up on CDR twice? In the 2nd Round?

    I'm not a big fan of Mbah a Moute. Don't see him sticking in the league for too long.

    To answer that question for you, yes, they did. To be honest though, do they need him? They've got quite a few SGs already, all of whom are young.
