Thought he was a free agent.

There are team forums for a reason, if you don't care to look at them then you'll never know all the news. Anyway, on topic: good trade for the Raptors, since both players have a history of injuries. The question is whether O'Neal can really become an all-star player again.

I don't think this changes the division at all, JON isn't going to stay healthy and the Pacers are still a couple of good players away from making a run at the playoffs. And who knows how healthy Ford will be, he's always going to have back problems unfortunately.

And I wanted it to be a discussion with Nets fans. Didn't really want this to end up on the Raptors board.
JO doesn't have to be an all-star for this to be a great trade. Hes going to compliment Bosh very well. The Raptors are going to be a very exciting and tough playoff team next year.
Indy definitely won this trade by getting a first round pick without giving any up. JO had no future in Indy, they get a nice PG and a big expiring contract PLUS another high pick in the draft. Toronto gets a good 7 footer in there with Bosh but gave up a little too much IMO.
get er Done BC get er done if we were gonna take Lopez with the 17th pick, i dont want it so GET ER DONE

Pacers get a good shake out of this as well. Another first rounder, A very solid point gaurd in T.J. Ford, and an expiring contract in Rasho. As for the affect on the rest of the division, who cares. Not like we were going to win the thing the next few years anyway.

Isn't the entire Raptor's team jump shooters anyway? what's one more Hmmm how many finess jump shooting bigs do the Raptors have? Jermaine O Neal - check Bosh - check Bargnani - check How many other jump shooters do the Raptors have? Kapono - check Anthony Parker - check Delfino and Moon - check, because they think they are If Jermaine plays 42 games like last year, and the Raps scrape by and get a low seed in the East and play Celtics, Detroit or Orlando. Then this trade would be a failure. If Jermaine plays 70-75 games and the Raps can get a 4th or 5th seed. Then it will only look half bad.
BC has been a lot of good and a lot of bad so far but I find this deal encouraging. BC is not above taking a bullet for the team.
The risk is nowhere near as big as you'd think. We're basically banking on O'Neal putting it together for this upcoming season. He very well could. The man had absolutely no frontcourt help in Indiana for a while, and he's taken a substantial amount of time to rehab. And if he doesn't bounce back, we get a huge expiring contract to deal with the season after. Like I mentioned before, BC always makes sure his contracts match up well so that he doesn't get locked down financially for too long. I didn't want to give up the 17th pick, but it was looking more and more like Brandon Rush wasn't going to fall to us. He was really the one player I had my eye on. The others all had pretty significants risks attached to them. Robin Lopez or Jermaine O'Neal? That's a pretty easy decision. We'll see how it works on the court. Everyone's mentioned that Bosh and O'Neal are both jumpshooting bigs, which is a problem. But you also have to recognize that they're different types of jumpshooters that inhabit different areas on the court. Both are athletic enough to be a force crashing the boards or be a threat moving off the ball. And the pick-and-roll can be pretty deadly with some of our outside shooters. I'm definitely glad Jose will be coordinating this offense, instead of TJ. And I also like the idea of Bargnani coming off the bench as our 4 after last year's up and down season. Hopefully we can give him a consistent role that'll help him bounce back.
Well it wouldn't be just having Brooke Lopez for 2 seasons vs. Jermaine for 2 seasons. It would be what is prefered for those two seasons having Brooke Lopez or Brandon Rush and TJ Ford and Rasho for one of the two. As well TJ for a 3rd year and the 17th pick for 2 more years and being easy to re-sign. I think BC paid a little too high, if the pick was removed or it was a 2nd round pick then I'd call it even.
Well, I think keeping TJ for another season was simply out of the question. He needed to be traded. That was a foregone conclusion. That comparison of Robin Lopez and O'Neal wasn't meant to be taken too seriously. I was just trying to show that there's a lot of risk/chance attached to these prospects outside of the lottery. I like them, but unless we could get Rush (and its looking more and more like we won't be able to), losing the 17th pick isn't that much of blow.
