Hopefully the dynamic of sharing a front court with Bosh will mean good things for O'Neal and for the Raptors.

Toronto could run a scary double-sided pick and roll with Kapono and O'Neal on one side and Bosh and Parker on the other. Two inside-outside scorers and two deadly three point shooters.

This looks good on paper but really, how much damage is O'Neal, Bosh and Bargs going to do in the post?

Brian looks to be getting antsy as the people of Toronto weren't to happy about them last season.

Great trade for Toronto if Jermaine plays 70 games goes for 16-10 a night. Indy's needs go from PG to bigs. Looks like Augustin drops in to the Kings laps....unless Portland is targeting a move up to snag Augustin. Indy will probably go with a big and an athletic wing.

this makes me upset. i wish rod thorn would make a move like this. teams like TO and Portland are making great trades IMO and I feel that NJ is playing the waiting game....now you could say they are waiting for the right move, but Im just venting...I wish my favorite team would spice things up..and want to win now...I feel like they are rebuilding for 4 years when I want to win now :/

so toronto now have 2 o'neals or 2 boshes...

i think this is a good move for toronto though...jo's contract only runs 2 more years and ends just in time for bosh's FA year and a deep FA market in 2010. they also gave up players they don't need and a future role player at best with that 17th pick...

Ah, yes, that's right. That was always "worst case scenario" for if he got traded to the Nets - of course, it applies to Toronto, too.

i completely agree with you maximillion... i don't know why we aren't making big time moves even if its a risk. They keep saying we want to contend and things like that... but we're always so passive and instead make small changes. This has been going on ever since the Vince Carter trade. I think Thorn just likes to try and rip people off and not take risks.

If jermaine oneal IS healthy as they say he is... they can have a really solid team. two potential 20-10 guys is no joke.

We need to get Brand nowwwww... whatever it takes and build around him and harris.

This was a GOOD trade IMO. I know many people say that O'Neil isnt the same but honestly look what we gave up....TJ Ford who has been overshadowed by Calderon (imagine Calderon's stats now that hes the fulltime PG) and Rasho who barely got minutes in the playoffs and a 17th, there really isnt any ONE player that I would take at 17th that would change the team drastically.

I dont mind this trade at all, it has the POTENTIAL to put the Raptors atop of the conference battling Boston as Detriot wants to give their team a facelift. If O'Neil doesnt pan out we are as mediocre as we were last season with Bosh and Calderon running the show.

And he becomes an expiring contract after this upcoming season, if things don't work out. That's like, medium-risk, high-reward right there.

The only risk is if it turns they needed TJ that bad (which at this point, it doesn't)...or if the 17th pick pans out to be a really good player.

Yeah, like for seasons after the Raptors traded Carter to NJ Toronto has been talking about adding 2nd scorer, but like signing role players like Kapono etc isnt going to help Bosh out that much. Now we take a chance at O'Neil and if he doesn't work out then he could be dealt to another team looking for a potential scorer and he would be more valuable as he is 22 MIL coming off the cap.

If we do keep JO for the full 2 years I (which I expect) we'll have Bosh and JO coming off the cap during the same year with Calderon, Bargnani and Kapono being the only ones under contract.

Anyways people could bash JO, and yeah he has been injured but hopefully this trade rejuvenates O'Neil and he'll play determined basketball.

Fantastic trade by Bryan Colangelo...Ford has been a nonfactor for Toronto thus far and the 17th pick realistically would be used on a role player...O'neal if healthy could pair with Bosh to form the most formidable frontcourt since Duncun and Robinson...to true allstars paired in the frontcourt with Calderon at the point...could be a very dangerous team next season.

At worst O'Neil becomes a 22 million dollar expiring contract next summer so the risk is worth it. So does this mean they are going to try and trade Bargnani for a star swingman?

    Anyways, make SOMETHING happen Thornkiki!!!

Choose a god damn direction and go for the reload with a star big or rebuild by trading Carter and Jefferson.

I don't know what happened to the other thread, but whatever. I'll just repost what I said in the other one.

Pacers made out pretty good in this trade. They get a nice young point gaurd in T.J. Ford. They get a nice expiring in Rasho and another first round pick.

As for it's affect on us, it really doesn't matter this year. Even if O'Neal regains his previous form (questionable at best), Raptors will not beat Boston, and needless to say neither will us. It could work out good for Toronto, at least they're not maintainging the status quo. They regressed from last year (06-07) and at least you can say they tried to make their team better. I am glad however, the Nets did not get O'Neal.

haha terrible trade for toronto... Oneal was mediocre even when he was healthy, and is a terrible match with Bosh... they do pretty much the same thing... he's just gonna take shots from Bosh, they needed a guy more like Diop, a garbage man/enforcer type... and while they didn't need Ford, he should have more value than that...

If Jermaine O'Neil could get the Pacers an expiring contract, a solid starter, and a mid first round pick then what could Carter or Jefferson get? What does it mean for Brand's trade value?
