The Dallas Morning News is reporting the Mavs are prepared to offer Diop the full $5.5 million MLE next week, hoping the Nets won’t match. The News suggests that as a back-up plan, the teams could engineer a sign-and-trade, but doesn’t suggest who the Nets would get.</div> So long Diop. Sign and trade him to Dallas so the Mavs can use their MLE for someone else? What do they have left? Thorn already cleared a lot of their assets out. Bass?
No shocker here, I really didn't expect Diop to stay quite honestly. While it would be nice to pull off a sign and trade, for us and Diop, but really what do they have left? I bet Thorn lets him walk and, opposed to matching a MLE deal, i'm all for it. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ghoti @ Jun 26 2008, 08:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I'm fine with this as long as it doesn't directly lead to drafting Robin Lopez.</div> C'mon Gordon or Rush!
I expect him to walk, also. . . . . . just think of the Nets' depth at the bigs: --Boone --Krstic (?? who knows what we'll get out of him--or even if we'll resign him) --Sean --Swift --the #21 draft pick --do we count Boki? Will he even be signed? Yessir, playoffs, here we come.

Ok, maybe a couple flashy dunks as our last resort bigman if injury occurs. Still not someone we should count on though. Boki and Nenad could both very well be gone. That would leave Sean, Josh, and #21. That's not super encouraging for next season but it could get them all much needed burn that will prepare them for the future.

The Mavs seem desperate to use their MLE right this year and would probably love to sign and trade for Diop so they could use the MLE on someone else. Say Diop is willing to sign for 3-5 million with the Mavs, what is the minimum the Mavs could sign and trade a guy like Devin George in a deal and include Shan Foster their 2nd round pick and cash in a deal for Diop? Resigned Diop for Resigned George (one year deal) + Shan Foster + Cash http://www.star-telegram.com/287/story/731006.html <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"We?€™ve got one bullet and have to make it count," Nelson said of the mid-level exception. Let them sign him with their MLE... we have no need for anything they have. I think we picked that carcus clean. As much as we could use Stackhouse at the 3, I think he's in decline and overpaid.
