One of the boys from our tiny island of Guam has made the show!!! Chamorro born and raised! He was scouted and thats big news for us since we are such a tiny island... REPRESENT! JOE DUARTE!! Heres the clip. He wears a mohawk. http://www.youtube.com/v/lU2ZzouWTf0
What time in the film does he come up? and is he a lightweight or a lightheavyweight? and Trench do you currently live on Guam?
man, Im not sure if thats the right one. haha. I think there are 3 different clips. I need to look again. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>To tell you all the truth....Dana and I talked after everything was said and done. Dana said "Joe, do you realize what you just did? I replied....I made it to the Utimate Fighter? He said "more importantly....you open the doors for people from your Island". It wasnt until then I realize that I made it possible for athletes on our island to get recognized out here in the BIG SHOW. Im just glad I heard it from the man himself. Just like Diego Sanchez made it possible for fighters like Keith Jardine, Nate Marquardt, and Rashad Evans to get in the door to the UFC, Im making it possible for fighters to make it from Guam. Like Diego, I will reccomend fighters that work hard and that are willing to fight hard in the UFC. Many fighters have a dream of making it to the UFC but with that comes more risk, risk of putting yourself out there for people to judge you. Now adays, everyone wants a part of the sport....but its those that willing to take risks that will make it.</div> Anyway, here is his myspace profile. http://www.myspace.com/joeduarte yes, I live on Guam. I'm 100% Pacific Islander!
Well, cool. Since you live in Guam, I will root for him, unless he turns out to be the guy everyone hates like Jeremy May. lol.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Trench @ Jun 29 2008, 05:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He's a real humble guy. Confident, but humble. May was the worst. lol</div> ahh but the TV camera changes everyone.. we'll see if he remains humble locked up with a bunch a doods and nothing to do
Thats the exciting part! He could not tell us if he actually made the final 16. We have to wait and see!
^ They have always taped the entire season prior to showing it. He no longer stays on Guam. Training exclusively on Guam limits what you can learn in MMA. He is currently stateside.
Yeah, he curently trains outta Cali. He's a cool cat. We were stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas and deployed to Iraq as well. I don't know him personally that well, we just had some of the same drinking partnahs. He's a funny guy and likes to have fun. he was well respected in Iraq as a good soldier who looked out for his peers. I'll be rooting for him and I'm sure everyother Pacific Islanders will be as well!!!
