    Happy Canada Day!

On his official website Jose Calderon had this to say:

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>http://www.josemanuelcalderon.com/indexEN.html

Topic: I will stay in Toronto

Early this morning, through my agents, I reached a preliminary agreement with the Toronto Raptors. I want to thank Bryan Colangelo, Maurizio Gherardini, Sam Mitchell and all of the Raptors family for the confidence that they have placed in me. I am sure that together we are going to achieve big things in the future.</div>

    Baaam!

Very nice. I think we all knew he would be re-signed and he would stay. I really think he'll have a great season this upcoming winter. He has a lot of great guys to work with, and he gets the number one spot. This is gonna be great for him and the team. Probably our best PG since Damn and Alvin.

The one thing I wonder about Calderon is if teams try to defend him for the pass and not the shot and try to make him a scorer, could he take advantage of the open looks?

Also now with a massive contract, and pretty much a guaranteed starting spot. He is in a totally different position that his last 3 years where he had a lot of motivation to try to even get minutes, and try to earn a contract, and become a starter. However now he has guaranteed minutes and is pretty much guaranteed the starting position, and has a big 5 year contract guaranteed. Without those motivating factors will Calderon's game digress?

Yup. Jose still has a lot to prove.

We don't know how he'll react as a full-time starter when teams have scouted him heavily (this is like what Bargnani faced last season). We don't know how he'll play without TJ's playing style as his foil. And we don't know how motivated he'll be with his newfound financial security.

But those are things that every player usually has to prove after getting a big deal. I have a lot of faith in Jose's work ethic and passion for the game. I've seen it when he plays for us and when he plays for the Spanish national team. That's the kind of player I'd be willing to make that investment in.

Well I can`t really peg Jose`s value so far. Another thread said 45 mill over 5 years. I wonder if other teams would offer that kind of money to him.
