    Gerald Green to Join Dallas

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>HOUSTON -- Free agent guard Gerald Green has agreed to a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Green, a first round pick of the Boston Celtics in 2005, was part of the trade that sent Kevin Garnett from Minnesota to Boston. The Timberwolves traded Green to Houston last season. He played in one game for his home town team before being released.

Green was the NBA Slam-Dunk Champion at the 2007 All-Star Game.

"We have a verbal agreement with Dallas on a one year contract," said Colin Bryant, Green's agent in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "We talked to a number of teams and there is more money out there, but this is the best situation for Gerald at this point in his career."

Green went from high school to the NBA. He played at Gulf Shores Academy in Houston.

Bryant believes the Mavericks coaching staff can help Green build a solid foundation.

"With (Head) Coach (Rick) Carlisle and Mario Elie, they will be vital to Gerald's development," Bryant said. "Playing for the Mavericks will help elevate his game."

Elie is a Mavericks assistant coach.

In three years in the NBA Green has averaged 8.1 points and 1.8 rebounds a game.</div>

Yuck, he is the prime example of someone who should have gone to college. But on the other hand, he has that wonderful thing known as "potential", with this "potential", he could become something. I just really...really...really doubt it.

I like this signing a lot more than what the Mavs did last year. Last year they signed a bunch of vets that are well past their prime (and at a point where they can barely contribute). This time they bring in a young guy who has potential to grow and increase his value, unlike people like Eddie Jones and Juwan Howard who's value decreases with each passing season.

This is not a good signing. At least the vets brought experience and wisdom the the Mavs. Unless Green comes out of is shell and somehow reaches his potential, which is ridiculously unlikely, this will not help the Mavs. Trust me. I had to deal with his forced shots and weak drives to the lane for only half a year; and I knew then and there that he is a poor basketball player.

Which makes the Martell Webster pick a better one, even though people were shocked he went before Green.

Oh absolutely, Webster is a very good player in this league. He does gives this thing called a "contribution" to his team, he helps his team. Gerald doesn't understand what that means.

The vets didn't bring anything to the team. Eddie Jones couldn't hit wide open shots, nor could any of the other vets like Juwan Howard or Devean George. They could bring all the leadership they want, but they were all a total liability on defense and on offense. The opposing team didn't even have to guard these guys. Its one thing to sign vets who can still contribute, and another to sign vets who should be home watching the game and not playing.

Ok fine, but Green will be a liability on offense AND not have the leadership or experience that the other guys have. Trust me. You would be on your knees begging for Jones to come back after you saw this guy play.

    Not a bad pick up.
