<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>According to multiple reports this morning Maggette will, indeed, wind up in the Texas Triangle, and he could very well turn out to be the piece that gets his new team a championship. If all goes according to plan, Maggette will finally join the San Antonio Spurs, who were very much in love with him a couple of seasons ago when his last contract came up.</div>

Very interesting move. So does Bowen go to the bench or does Manu stay in his super 6th man role?

Good signing. Brent Barry just opted out. So they got an upgrade in that spot.

I actually wanted the Spurs to win a title in 99. I wanted them to win their 2nd title.

I liked D-Rob, Timmy D, Ginobli, Parker back then.

Now I don`t know why, but they just get on my nerves now.

I dont want Maggette to go to the Spurs.

I have to admit Bufford is a damn good GM, getting Horry, Oberto, Finley, Barry, Kurt Thomas, Damon Stoudamire, Udrih, and keeping the core guys around, and now maybe adding Maggette on for a discounted price.

I still hate the Spurs though.

I think this might be a little over-stated. The Clippers just renounced his rights, last night, I believe.

I bet a couple of more teams get in on this before he makes a verbal agreement...and even if he does, it's just verbal. Therefore, the Lakers should throw the MLE at him, as well. Let him decide who he wants to win a title with (well, the only team he'll win with is the Lakers ; ] ).

    Fisher/Farmar
    Kobe/Whoever
    Maggette/Ariza
    Gasol/Odom
    Bynum/Mihm

I like. I wonder if Odom would be willing to come off the bench? I still say we should trade him.

If it is true and Maggette does sign with the Spurs, then they just catapulted themselves back into contention in the west, imo. The Lakers can't stand still, they need to find a tough defensive wing player in place of Odom because the teams out west are only getting better.

    ****........................

If Lakers, Hornets, etc. don't make any changes the Spurs will be your WC champs next season..........and possibly NBA champs..

Good fit for the Spurs. They need athleticism and Maggette has it in spades. Gets to the line a ton and just a solid all around player to replace old ass Michael Finley. I think he probably will start at SG and Manu will come off the bench as a super sub, that seems to work well for the Spurs.

I'm not a big fan of the Spurs, but at least they acquired their entire big three through the draft. That's pretty impressive and pretty respectable.

Don't forget 1999 as well. They took 2001 off, I guess. Anyway, the Spurs just added a great player, and they're slowly refreshing their monotonous team. Watch out.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Three days into the NBA’s free agency period, Corey Maggette is still talking to teams and weighing his options. It appears the free-agent swingman is heading into the holiday weekend a little bit closer to becoming a Spur than he was before the week began.

A source close to the negotiations said Thursday that, though no deal is imminent, talks between the Spurs and Maggette are serious and the interest is mutual.

The Spurs are believed to have offered Maggette a multi-year deal, starting with their $5.8 million mid-level exception. Maggette became an unrestricted free agent this week when he opted out of the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Meanwhile, published reports out of Orlando suggest the team perceived to be the Spurs’ stiffest competition for Maggette might be near dropping out of the race altogether.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Magic are formalizing a contract offer for free-agent point guard Chris Duhon, perhaps by the end of the week. In that event, Orlando would be all but forced to abandon courtship of Maggette.</div>

R.C. Buford's one of the greatest general managers in NBA history. I have absolutely no evidence to back up that claim, but I don't think anyone's ever done such an amazing job at consistently putting out a contending team while negotiating under the salary cap.
