<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Canada’s only NBA club has selected another American as its new play-by-play voice for national television, sources told Metro yesterday.

Matt Devlin, who spent this decade serving three-year stints as the voice of the Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Bobcats, has been hired by the Toronto Raptors to succeed Chuck Swirsky, according to the sources.

The sources also said they expect the Raptors to announce the hiring of Devlin within seven to 10 days.

Swirsky was a U.S. citizen when he was hired by the Raps 10 years ago, although he obtained his Canadian citizenship last winter. Swirsky recently switched NBA allegiances and will be the Chicago Bulls’ voice next season.</div>

Devlin is solid from what I've heard but its hard to trust anything Marty York writes.

Don’t know much about him, actually. But he’s worked in Charlotte and around the league for quite some time.</div>

Not too bad. But he isn't as entertaining as Chuck. At least we'll be more official/professional.

He's not to bad. Like everyone has said, not Chuck, but at least we can all sleep easy knowing it's not Jack Armstrong.

    it's been confirmed.

It wasn't all point guards and big men for the Raptors yesterday. They also got a new TV voice.

In a move widely-reported for a couple of weeks, the team introduced veteran broadcaster Matt Devlin as the play-by-play man for the 2008-09 season. Devlin has worked as the lead broadcaster for the Charlotte Bobcats and Memphis Grizzlies.

    "It's a top-shelf city and top-shelf organization," said Devlin.

Devlin replaces the popular Chuck Swirsky, who left to become the play-by-play man for the Chicago Bulls.

Devlin said it's difficult to describe his broadcasting "style" because it's always evolving.

"I've always tried to be straightforward and fair," he said. "People tune in to watch Chris Bosh and Jermaine O'Neal."

Devlin's broadcast partners on the various networks that will carry Raptor games next season are still to be finalized. Both Leo Rautins and Jack Armstrong are expected back in some capacity.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"People tune in to watch Chris Bosh and Jermaine O'Neal."</div>I like him already. Broadcasters have a bad habit of thinking they have to fill every single second with commentary and Chuck was the worst example of that. I'd just like a minimalist play-by-play for once.
