im Chinese and have been following his news for years. From my point of view, Yi can never be a star. Sure he might have the star-like physical upside and the whole chinese population behind him, but he doesn't have the mental game for it. He's too arrogant to be a star in this league, he doesnt realize that in order to be star, you must learn to be good role player and rookie first, gotta take it step by step. No matter what team it is, Yi expects himself to be "the man" for the team the second he walks in the locker room, and he blames everyone but himself for not getting 30/15 a night (e.g. Mo cant pass, Redd wont pass coach wont let him play, or weather is too cold, not enough fans cheering, chinese national team giving him pressure etc. etc. etc.). And i dont blame him for it, since he was like 18 years old, the media have been calling him a genius and "the next yao". By all these media crap, he basically walked into the NBA thinking he's already something. But the regular seam began, thats when people start to realize he is nothing but a ordinary rookie who cant do anything else but shoot the ball with his foot on the 3pt line. However, the media never gave up on him and they are giving him all the excuses in the world to not get 30 points a game. we have a word for it in chinese, its called "murdered by the praises". and the bucks realized this and dumped him to you guys and Hammond is probably laughing even when hes asleep that he got RJ and got rid of a bad contract.
By the way, that was my friend posting, I still support Yi But I think the Chinese media can be a little.... too supportive from time to times.
I think he has potential to be a star. He has the skills, he just needs the mental toughness to harness those skills and utilize them into one package.
Interesting take. The majority of us really have no idea what kind of person Yi is. Even during that whole draft debacle, I was one of the people who thought we should lay off because it seemed like his handlers were making him come off as an arrogant douchebag. But I could just as easily have been wrong.
Yi will fly to NY from NINGBO (a city, south of Shanghai) after China National team finish the game against Australia National team at both July 4th and July 6th,he will stay in NJN for 4-6 days. during this period, he will finish his physical exam and communicate with boss or coach or MG or sb... He has to back to China before July 17th to catch up Stankovic Continental Champions Cup hold in HANGZHOU (a city, an hour drive to shanghai metro)...
Yeah, but Mo and Redd really don't pass the ball enough. Maybe he was just telling the truth on that one.
I think it's way too early to tell. I don't think anyone will dispute that he has all the tools to become a great player, but I think the concern is the Chinese will wear him down with his national team commitments. That's what I'm worried about.

Maybe he was just telling the truth on that one.</div> I agree, it's a well known fact that Mo and Redd are ballhogs. Here's the Milwaukee Bucks pre-draft analysis straight off of NBA.com- Analysis: Can you draft chemistry? Many chuckled when they saw Bogut giving himself high fives against Atlanta, but it indicated the Bucks' chemistry problems this past season. On more than numerous occasions, Yi would be open on the pick-and-pop and Williams and Redd would not look in his direction. Williams and Redd would often ignore teammates and chuck either early in the shot clock (Williams) or try to break his man down, then chuck (Redd). Bogut has also had his issues with the prolific backcourt. New coach Scott Skiles will need to deal with these issues, while new GM John Hammond will need to find a small forward in this Draft or through a trade. Source Also, I don't think Yi has ever criticized his teammates publicly, unless the Chinese fans have access to quotes that the rest of us don't.

The Bucks don't even have a system, why do you think the coach was fired ? Answer no structure, no D, or consistant offense, Yi is going to shock alot of people this year.
The OP is full of crap, sounds like a troll. Yi has never criticized his team mates on the Bucks or anywhere else. Nor has he been arrogant, he's more quite than Yao, and has never displayed any of the things you said he did.
Yi had a slight shoulder injury after the all star break, Charlie V was then promoted to starter. Yi was shellshocked and the Bucks with everyone took a nosedive. They experimented with different rotations still failed. There was much drama in the locker room. For a 6th pick rookie he was sure put under a ton of pressure and he became the favorite goat. When your team have a complete failure of a season where they fire the coach and GM, trade away your #1 pick just to wash your hands from it. Blame everyone, they're all at fault. So now, Yi in a new team. Lets put away last years pretense.
It's been said before, and I'll say it again: Yi will love playing with Harris and VC. He'll be able to score easily in pick and pop situations with those two on a very consistent basis. He'll probably score 8-10 points a night in those situations alone.

Bucks then lost a string of games. Players revolted and I think Redd then told coach to shut the F up and let them play how they want. Management never recovered.
well im not goin to pass judgement until he does it in NJ... i never passed judgement on vince and look... hes been nothin but great to our franchise... i admire vince... for all he has done and all he will continue to do for the nets
