http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2008/07/n...o_be_parti.html article basically says that even though they think he'll physically be fine after recovering from the surgery, they think maybe he should go off and be a productive player somewhere else, unless he wants to sign here for cheap. fantastic. they won't regret that at all.
Would he be a nice addition to a team in need of a center? You make it sound like a good thing that he's leaving.
It's all about his injuries. Either the Nets believe Krstic will never get back to top form, or they think their current big men will outdo Nenad in the future. Somehow, this is going to bite the Nets in the ass. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>You make it sound like a good thing that he's leaving.</div> I detect sarcasm in his post.
Did you really expect to bring him back? I'm pretty sure the reason for drafting Brook Lopez, aside from him being an absolute steal at #10, was to make Krstic dispensable.
Krstic could have been so good if he never got injured. He had lots of potential. He had a sweet jumper and was improving on the boards and on defense. I was expecting him to have a breakout season after what I saw him do to Shaq when New Jersey got swept by the Heat. It's sad to see that he will be leaving. I wish him the best of luck for the rest of his career and hope he could be as good as we was pre-injury.
What at all did Kristic acomplish last season that would make you want him back?! The guy has no inside game anymore, he became a jumpshooter and TO machine in the paint, he looked like garbage the whole year.
Giving him away would be stupid. If there is no market for him, he'll play for the QO. Why should the Nets be rushing to part ways with him? They are looking for veterans and are just trying to develop a roster, not win next season. They are in a perfect position to see what he has left.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>But Krstic also knows the recent changes to the Nets' frontcourt make him a spare part, which is why agent Marc Cornstein said yesterday that the sign-and-trade option is now being openly discussed with the Nets, who don't want to give Krstic more than a two-year contract.</div> That seems to be why. Say that even if Krstic plays for the qualifying offer and returns to form next year, he will then want a nice large, multi-year contract which the Nets don't want to take on because of the 2010 free agency.

If they were to try a sign and trade this year then they could take back a contract with 2 years on it, so there could be more potential suitors for a trade out there right now. But if they try a sign and trade at the end of next year then they could take back a contract with only one year on it, right? Then again, if Krstic comes back to form next season he could have more value in a sign and trade. I don't know.
The only reason i'll be mad at him leaving is if we get nothing back for him. We need, at the bare minimum, a trade exemption or a second rounder or two.

At this point he's gonna get an MLE type deal, at most. Who is gonna offer him more money? The Nets can match that. -Petey
The guy had potential, but always seemed to be hurt. I can't stand having a talent tease who's always hurt. It totally screws up theplans because the FO will keep on hanging onto him because of his talent but he just won't be able to contribute.
I liked Krstic, but we have Yi and Lopez that basically do the same thing. As far as I know, they havent had knee surgery and they have a bigger upside then Nenad. Sorry to see him go. Ff we can S&T him for a combo guard for the next two years, I am for it.

Yi and Brook may have nice upside but they both have their question marks and while it sounds kinda wish washy I wouldn't mind keeping Nenad around for that very reason. If the Nets truly feel he can regain his old form, bringing him back can only boost his stock and skilled bigmen with reasonable contracts are real nice trading chips at the trade deadline.

Would love to have him back for the QO and see what he has left. I'm surprised Miami isn't going hot and heavy for him. He'd be the perfect center for them. His outside shooting would give Wade and Beasley a ton of room to get to the basket.

We need these young guys to get experience which means playing time. So we sign Nenad to QO only to have him take these guys PT and we let him go the year after. Doenst make sense to me. Get a Vetern Big man ala PJ Brown to help develop them.

If the Nets truly feel he just needed more time (and he did improve towards the end of the season) to return to form, then I can't understand why they don't keep him, including signing him beyond 2010 if necessary. If the younger bigs show they can give comparable production, then you move him at the deadline (when his value is higher) or next summer. But he was too good right before injury to trade now for peanuts.
