Just a quick question. I heard we are offering James Posey the full MLE. Obviously there's no guarentee he signs with us, I personally think he's going back to Boston, but anyways, what about Corey Maggette? If we're offering Posey the MLE, why not Corey? When it all comes down to it, who would you Laker fans rather see in a Lakers uniform?

Btw, I know both signings are really unlikely

Posey. Can't pass up two nice hustle players in Posey and Ariza on the same team. And it might actually happen, since Posey is upset with the Celtics trying to bring in Maggette and that he'd love to be on the Lakers according to Hoopsworld. Don't know if you can rely on that source though.

And I thought Maggette had agreed with the Spurs?

No he hasn't Jumpman, Tuesday is the day when they can start signing FAs, but Maggette is supposedly still looking at offers.

CMaggs is seeking a deal for more than the MLE would pay him. Personally I think he's a terrible fit for the Triangle offense and the physical style he's played his entire career has taken a toll on him. I noticed his game regressed last season and he's clearly on the downside of efficient production.

He is two years younger than Posey and lives at the FT line though, Shape. I'd take Maggette in a heart beat. I'd then look to ship out Odom and Walton or Vlad, to reduce our log jam at the 3.

However, I'd take Posey, as well. I love his toughness, I love how he isn't afraid to get physical and dish out flagrant fouls, and he can knock down some shits and is a good perimeter defender. If we could sign him, I'd look to make Ariza the starting 3 and still ship out Odom.

A starting lineup of: Fisher, Bryant, Maggette, Gasol, and Bynum is ideal imo.

I just hope we get one of the two.

I don't know about Maggette getting to the line much with our current team. Maggette didn't fit in well at all when the Clippers started him alongside Brand & Kaman. It forced Dunleavy to play Maggette off the bench because he didn't have the driving lanes with Brand and Kaman in the post, plus Maggette started chucking from the outside because that's all the defense was giving him.

Besides Maggette doesn't solve our defensive issues at SF. If the Lakers faced the Celtics again the playoffs could Maggette defend Pierce? No he can't.

We need a player capable of slowing Pierce down.

Posey would be a lucky guy if he manages to win 2 straight titles...

I too would pick him over Maggette because he would be a better fit for us... Maggette would hog the ball away from kobe coz he needs the ball to be effective.

Posey on the other hand would give us another hustle player like Ariza... I dont want us offering the full MLE though... he isnt worth that much... maybe around 4.8M

If you're willing to pay Posey $4.8M, why not give him the full MLE? Posey is exactly the type of player we need off the bench and closing out games for us. I don't think the Celtics beat us without Posey on their team.

I can't believe the type of money Golden State threw at CMaggs, but with him off the market the Lakers need to put the full court press on Posey. Lakers are also waiting to see if Sasha accepts his deal.

The sooner the Lakers can get somone into camp the better.

Looks like the Spurs might be out of the running for Posey, they signed Roger Mason Jr. today 2 year deal for $7M.

However, the Cavs, Hornets, Wizards and Rockets are now pursuing him. I'd hate to see him join New Orleans.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Boston Globe reports free agent James Posey could make a decision about where he'll play next year in "the next day or so."

The most coveted of the Boston Celtics' free agents, a two-time NBA champion who played a major reserve role this past season, is drawing interest from the Cavaliers, Washington, New Orleans, Detroit, and the Lakers, but no one seems willing to offer the full mid-level exception ($5.5 million).

When asked about Posey and [free agent Eddie] House, agent Mark Bartelstein said in a text message: ‘‘Nothing new.'' Bartelstein, however, did say he hoped to get Posey signed in ‘‘the next day or so'' and said the Celtics are still in the mix.
Bartelstein indicated the same sentiment to the Cleveland Plain Dealer Wednesday evening. Mary Schmitt Boyer, who wrote in Wednesday's editions that the Cavs had turned their focus to the local product, followed up with a blog entry this evening in which she wrote:

Posey, 31, is believed to be seeking the mid-level exception, which will be $5.585 million for the upcoming season. In addition to the Cavs, his suitors are believed to include the Celtics, Lakers, New Orleans, Washington and Houston — at least. Posey lives in Texas in the off-season. The San Antonio Spurs, who had been interested in Maggette, are another possibility.</div>

Hoopsworld is reporting with one sentence, "Posey is expected to announce that he'll re-sign with the Boston Celtics in the next 24 hours.".

Don't know whether to believe it.

I heard the Celtics are trying to make a move to free up some cap room. They are in luxury tax territory and any offer they give to Posey they are essentially paying double. I'm not sure Ainge has the green light from the ownership to give Posey that type of a financial commitment.

The player the Celtics need to move is Scalabrine, but I'm not sure there are any takers unless the Celtics want to include some future picks in the deal and/or maybe Powe or Big Baby.

I have a feeling Posey ends up in New Orleans.
