Duhon picks Knicks over Magic; agrees to two-year deal
    ESPN.com news services

NEW YORK -- Chris Duhon has reached a verbal agreement with the New York Knicks on a two-year contract, Duhon's agent said.

"The chance for Chris to be a starter was too much to pass up," Duhon's agent, Kevin Bradbury, told 1050 ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand.

Duhon had also been talking with the Orlando Magic. Bradbury said the Magic never offered Duhon a contract.

Bradbury said the Knicks have made it clear that Duhon could start, which could mean that Stephon Marbury's days with the Knicks are numbered. Marbury is in the final year of his contract.

The agreement was initially reported by The Sporting News.

"I am just excited, I am ready to get to work for the Knicks," said Duhon, according to the Sporting News. "It's a big stage, playing in New York. It's something every player in the NBA wants."

Duhon played the last four seasons with the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 5.8 points and 4 assists per game last season. He has averaged 6.9 points and 4.5 assists per game in his career.

The Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday that the Magic expected to offer Duhon a three-year deal worth up to $10 million.

"Chris could have shopped himself around more, but in the end, he wanted a fit where he felt comfortable and he knew what kind of opportunity he would be getting," Bradbury said. "He wasn't worried about trying to find more money on the market or anything like that. He wanted the right situation, and this just felt like the right situation."

    Knicks to sign G Duhon
    Friday, July 4, 2008 03:13 PM

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks are expected to sign point guard Chris Duhon, the Sporting News reported on its website Friday.

According to the report. Duhon will sign a two-year contract at the full mid-level exception. The value of the exception will be announced Wednesday when contracts can officially be signed, but it's expected to be about $5.8 million, making the deal worth around $12 million.

"I am just excited. I am ready to get to work for the Knicks," Duhon told the Sporting News. "It's a big stage playing in New York. It's something every player in the NBA wants."

The signing would mark the first significant move for new Knicks president Donnie Walsh and coach Mike D'Antoni. It also would seem to signal the end of the Stephon Marbury's disastrous tenure with his hometown team.

A 2004 second-round pick of the Chicago Bulls, Duhon is known more for his defense and his ability to take care of the ball. He has career averages of 6.9 points and 4.5 assists and also has shot just under 36 percent from 3-point range.

Why would they be? IF they keep Ramon Sessions they won't have a need from him. Dude was ballin the last games of the season. They also have Mo Williams (although they seem to want to get rid of him). I still don't think Duhon would start over Sessions of they traded Williams.

Because it seemed like Duhon got a lot of minutes with Skiles as coach. Skiles' kind of player.

That, or Duhon has pictures of Skiles in some compromising position or something [IMG]

haha thats true. I think Duhon is decent, but if they signed him to the full MLE, then WOW. Didn't they want to improve their financial situation?

    Drinking buddies?

    -----------------------------

I think full MLE is overpayment, but it is only a two year contract, so it's putting them within the parameters of their salary cap plan.
    Knick's salaries updated.

Can't say that I'm hurt by the loss. I've never been a fan of Duhon and his leaving helps clear up the logjam we have in the backcourt at least a little.
