Regarding Boki's negotiations with the Nets (and presumably Krstic's too) I was thinking when was the last time, other than Carter's extension that the Nets gave anyone longer than a two year deal since Ratner took over? The Nets simply haven't given out a lot of lengthy contracts...three to be exact: to Jefferson, Collins and Carter.

In 2004, the Nets gave Richard Jefferson and Jason Collins six and five year deals. They gave Eric Williams a three year partial MLE deal, Ron Mercer a two-year LLE deal and handed out a lot of vets minimum deals to Rodney Buford, Jabari Smith, Jacque Vaughn, Travis Best, and Kyle Davis (the last two partially guaranteed).

In 2005, they offered Shareef Abdur Rahim a six-year deal and Tractor Traylor a two-year LLE deal and did give Jeff McInnis a two-year deal, with Cliff Robinson and Scott Padgett getting partially guaranteed deals of less than $2 million a year and again handed out vets minimum deals to Lamond Murray and Linton Johnson III.

In 2006, they gave Mile Ilic a small two-year deal and House a small one-year deal, both coming out of the MLE.

In 2007, it was the Vince Carter extension, most of the MLE (but for only one year) to Magloire, plus three partially guaranteed vets' minimum deals to Hite, Armstrong and Allen. They did offer a three-year deal to Mikki Moore.

Almost all of those transactions, other than Jefferson, Vaughn and maybe Carter, House and Collins, were unmitigated disasters. I guess Armstrong gets a pass. It shouldn't be a surprise that the Nets are holding the line to two or maybe three years. It's what they have almost always done...hasn't worked, but that's what they do.

Reading between the lines...Lebron fanatics shouldn't get too excited over the 2-year limit?

its a good thing Thorn didn't give those player more than 2 years, if we did we'll be like the Knicks. Thorn knows when not to overpay.

I always felt that the RJ and Collins deals were a result of the backlash against the sale of KMart, Kittles, and Harris. Ratner was out to prove that he was willing to spend money, after getting lambasted in the press (remember that was also cited for the reason they elevated Frank to head coach. RJ and CERTAINLY COllins were just in the right place at the right time.
