He has a shooter's mentality and he can get his shot off. He is not now, nor has he ever been a point guard. He is a shooter and I hope he fires up some more in the second half. There is a reason why he is on this team. The Nets loved his workout. Polinsky raved about him after the workout. He might make this team.

Maybe for instant offense off the bench but I don't like what I'm seeing, granted its on a shitty feed.
He's playing with a lot of energy, but unfortunately that's translating to "put up a lot of shots." I think it's too soon to give this guy a fair assessment. I want to see him at SG, where his responsibility is to shoot, and he doesn't have to worry about passing.

Has his shot looked as good in this game as advertised?
He is a good scorer for a 6'2 combo player... I like him for instant offense off the bench. But he clearly cannot run an offense. No PG skills.
And he's the same age as Frank! They can hang out together on the road! Ever since Rodney Buford and Hassan Adams left, Frank has spent most of his evenings locked in his room watching video Clockwork Orange-style.
i hear everything u guys are saying.. but he sitll dished out 5 assists in 20 minutes... which isn't too bad... but then again i didn't watch the game so. But from what i understand he had a lot more opportunities to get more assists, which is why everyone is disliking him at PG
I agree that he is not a natural PG, but what do you expect from someone who has never played point? You're talking about someone who was one of the top scorers in the country, not an assist machine. If you're wanting someone to dribble around and set up plays then he's not your man. I was still very impressed by his overall game. He hustles like crazy, he led the team in points, assists, and rebounds (even at 6'-2"!) and I don't think it was a fluke as he averaged 6/game as a Jr. and Sr. While he did have more opportunities to pass off in some situations, you have to think about the options he's weighing in his mind. He is the best offensive option on the court and until someone stops him, why not keep the pressure on? If he was actually playing the 2 guard and he was on a team that was disciplined enough to set screens (obviously not gonna happen in a summer league game)and get him open looks, then we would see this kid light up the scoreboard.
All i'm gonna say is that if we trade Marcus and throw this guy in at point guard during the season, we'r in some trouble. Him at point would halt the development of pretty much all of our players. And yea he can score in summer games, but can he do it against NBA 2's. I just dont like the idea of having 2 undersized 2 guards on a roster with ager there also, who was pretty bad.
He sounds a lot like Ben Gordon to me. A less athletic version. Who I think is older. But similar. Good shooter, but shouldn't handle the ball most of the time. Ideally an off guard, but too small to guard most shooting guards. Probably not a good defender, but I don't really know. So a good compliment to a SG who handles PG duties, or a big point. Ala BRoy, Carter, TMac, Wade. We happen to have one of those. I think he could work well if he only played next to Vince, or maybe Harris. Marcus would make for a poor defensive combo, and Ager/Hassell couldn't handle the ball well enough. CDR could work, but I don't think he should be the primary ballhandler as a rookie. He could probably work well on the right roster, but could otherwise be poor. I'd take him, but not as a replacement for Marcus.

If you have any questions, PM me! And if you have any friends who you would like to invite to S2, feel free to I know nothing about JC, but he doesn't seem too bad for a combo guard off the bench. He'd be a great shooting option off the bench, possibly comparable to House? But I'd like to see his defense, first. I won't catch it tomorrow, either, I have my own Summer League bball to attend...
I can see a little Eddie House in him. I agree though i like Marcus better and think he should get more of a chance from us. I wouldn't mind if we have him in our roster, but not in the rotation.

For anyone who like to see what Carroll could do as a 2 guard or want to compare him to Eddie House see the links below. Carroll is a much better shooter than House...Carroll shot nearly over 50% from the field and nearly 50% from 3pt. (49.something) as a senior. House was only a 36% 3pt shooter and a 42% FG shooter. I would say he is a JJ Reddick with athletic ability. All I know is that several teams were very impressed with his pre-draft workouts, but agreed that he needed to be in the right place on the right team to succeed. Nate McMillan was raving about him, saying he was obviously known for his shooting ability but they were shocked when they saw him in person and watched how athletic he was and how well he could leap. Good for us they traded all those second rounds picks away and didn't have the chance to draft him! I guess he's gonna make it to training camp, but I'd like to see him at his natural position and see what knind of numbers he puts up, 22/5 in 20 minutes as a primary ball handler is good, even in summer league. I am most impressed by his 8/9 ft's. would be a great guy for depth at sg and his undersize could be an asset for creating mismatches. Looking foward to seeing more.
