<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>A major reason they made the controversial trade is Bobby Simmons' contract is up in 2010, the summer when LeBron James heads a free-agent class that may include Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire. Richard Jefferson makes $15 million for the 2010-11 season. Another reason, sources within the organization said, was that change was needed. They said Jefferson was jealous of Vince Carter and became so fixated on making the All-Star team that he focused more on the offensive end -- he averaged a career-best 22.6 points last season -- and didn't rebound or defend as hard as he did earlier in his career.</div> The Record
why would he be jealous of a lazy, half-hearted, jump shot chucking, non-all star, non-exciting, washed up, old, fools gold player?
Because Jefferson was set to be the man of the team before the Vince Carter trade and he most likely felt that he got no respect from others about his game.

everyone not just pro basketball players are jealous or envious of someone else...the thing is to not let it control you and not let it make you do what you really don't want to do...rj though still the hard-working and classy player we know, let it get the best of him...i do not want to believe it but we all saw what happened to rj's defense last year...
There could be something to that. I dont think he would ever root against Vince, and I think they liked each other. But I think RJ wishes he was as marketable as Vince. You cant put that smile on TV, your better than that Thats turrible, just turrible
I dont know if this is smoke screens. Or be prepared to suck for awhile that is why we traded RJ comments, but this is such a misleading statement. Expect RJ to try to light us up every game from now on, because that is his personality.
VC is the man. I can absolutely believe that RJ was jealous. That's the kind of person he was. Glad he's gone!
It sucks that jealousy got the best of him, but I'm not too surprised. Other than the first half of the '04-'05 season and a few months of last season, Jefferson was never really given the opportunity to be the main option on the team. It was pretty much the Kenyon Martin show, and when that ended, Carter was given the reins. Either way it's still Jefferson's fault, since his scoring mentality got the best of him. You can't focus on one aspect of your game, and let everything else suffer. That's not the way to play the game of basketball.
look RJ worked hard to become the scorer he is... but he was no where near as talented as VC... so VC should be the number 1 guy

Was always a pretty well balanced team before all the changes.

It seemed that whenever it was Kidd, Martin, and Jefferson out the on break, it was more likely that Martin got the pass from J-Kidd. He was trusted with putting the ball in the basket, instead of Jazzy Jeff..

If any one of them had more it was negligable. Martin was more of an offensive option, but that's because he got more looks in the post. The offense was pretty much an equal opportunity offense.

vince is a super nice guy... thats y he let RJ be the so called "star" with RJ takin all the big shots... when it shoulda been vince!
Jealousy is a female trait. What J mad cause Carter push dimes and he sell weight? Anyway, I find it stupid when players get jealous of their own teammate. Imagine if every player thought that way. LeBron and Kobe would be 1 man shows. There entire team would leave. Jefferson was a very solid player. The guy can score, pass, shoot and defend before this season. HE just needs to focus on winning and the team. I actually think he'll have a very nice year in Milwaukee. It'll be kinda like a "re-birth" or sorts where he'll be a leader a veteran for guys to look up to.
