<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Sour notes were about the only thing the Bulls hit during Derrick Rose's summer-league debut Monday, a 94-70 loss to the Miami Heat. That was in stark contrast to Michael Beasley, who was selected second behind Rose in the draft last month. Beasley led the Heat with 28 points and nine rebounds in just under 23 minutes. Beasley was as loose as the Bulls' defense, which he shredded for 9-of-21 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. ''Once, they told me to stop singing,'' Beasley said of Joakim Noah's reaction after the rookie forward was fouled. ''I was just singing a happy song.'' Beasley easily bested Rose in the matchup, which was the main event of three games at the RDV Sportsplex. Beasley said he was unaware that he took 21 shots in less than 23 minutes. ''If I would've known, I would have stopped shooting,'' he said. Rose finished with 10 points, seven in the second half as he began to assert himself. ''We didn't win, so I think I played horrible,'' Rose said after going 3-for-8 from the field. ''In the first half, I was coming down and running plays and just reacting. We were really trying to push the ball, but my wings weren't used to running more. So when I came down, I had to call out the plays. In the second half, that's when I started driving the ball a little more.'' Rose had four assists and was 4-for-8 from the line, where the Bulls shot 52.6 percent (10-for-19) to Miami's 80.8 percent (34-for-46). Rose also committed a game-high five turnovers. ''They were a little more physical than we were,'' Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. ''We started off a little bit slow. We kind of picked it up there at the beginning of the second quarter a little bit. Michael played well at the elbow and gave us some problems. Some of our [defensive] principles and rotations were lost there.'' Noah and Tyrus Thomas started alongside Rose. Thomas, who said he wanted to be on the summer-league team to help develop chemistry with Rose, finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds but picked up six fouls in 18 1/2 minutes. ''Our guys battled, but obviously there's a lot to work on,'' Del Negro said. ''Tyrus getting into foul trouble hurt us, especially early. But they controlled the tempo of the game with their size and aggressiveness.'' Del Negro used halftime to tell Rose to be more aggressive rather than simply try to involve his teammates, as Rose did early. ''That's Derrick's personality -- just see how the game comes to him a little bit,'' Del Negro said. ''Derrick played very well in the second half, being more aggressive and looking for his shot, penetrating. But they went to the line 46 times. We missed way too many free throws.'' The debut of Beasley and Rose created a buzz not experienced in this summer league since LeBron James and Dwyane Wade first stepped onto an NBA court in 2003. Rose said he didn't feel like all eyes of the capacity crowd of league coaches, scouts and media were on him. ''Not really,'' he said. ''But that's what I want. It comes with the territory"</div> Chicago Sun-Times
When you shoot 9-21, you aren't shredding anyone. He had a nice game. No one is surprised by his ability to score.
