that we are witnessing architecture from the ground up? I know some say the Yi signing is just for marketing. And I know some say the new direction is just a salary dump to get to James in 2010. Regardless, Jordan, Kobe, Duncan et al don't get nearly as far in the pantheon if not for the teams that were built around them. So, are Rod and Kiki, outside of the Lebron sweepstakes, building the 'new' prototypical NBA team? Is what they are working on a design which circumstances(Kidd exit as the catalyst) have opened the door to do more than just a 'rebuilding?' Total Zygote Design?!?!?!? I smell: height and scoring as a premium in this design, in which skills trump athleticism. Defense is there, but it more a product of the high octane offense exhausting the other team on the other end. International flavor, not just for marketing, but rather an assemblage of some of what the best of what the rest of the world has to offer. And personality and identity: are guys with work ethic and chips on their shoulders because, they weren't the "athletic freaks" and "upside guys" that people drool over and wait years for, meanwhile our guys are systematically whoopin' your butts. If so, I like what I smell.
player development, player development, player development...Kiki and Rod now believe that the team can be improved from within as well as from without...and they are banking on Yi, Swat, Boone, etc. improving along with the rookies. Hodge and Carroll are in the same mode. I have no idea if it will work or who else they will wind up with...but I agree with the strategy, particularly compared to the past. I just hope they keep Krstic and Nachbar. I thought Diop was overrated, even defensively.

On the plus side, they are intelligent, have good BBIQs, are hard workers, and are solid shooters and all-round positive offensive skills. But I have trouble getting past the defensive deficiencies. We've discussed this for a few months now, but I firmly believe that (a) the elite teams all have an easily defined "identity;" (b) the Nets lacked such an identity in recent years; © the Nets will try to use this recent roster runeover as an opportunity to create their own team-wide identity and finalize their roster with the players that will best accomplish and fulfill that identity; and (d) (the important one) I suspect that Coach Frank has a certain defensive mentality in mind that Boki and Crle will not help accomplish. It's possible that Boki's apparent back injury last season hindered his defensive play, and if that is so, then I'm all for keeping him around. As for Crle, he's a cheap asset, so strategically it probably makes more sense to resign him cheaply and see if he can finally overcome his injuries--a potential 16-8 from a center is not something to dismiss lightly . . . but still.
hey if we can have Yi, Swat, and boone develop and "over achieve" and the same goes with 3 of our rookies... i really dont see why we cant be competitive... we have devin and vince who are to say "veterans" and vince being our "star"... and vc isnt even selfish... he will pass the ball if he thinks ur open... and he still attracts doubles.... i have to say last year... we missed so many open shots... whether it be from boki, collins, RJ, marcus, krstic, and even trenton... its not like teams locked us down... it was more of us missing very makable shots...
