<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Philadelphia is close to has made a deal that sends Rodney Carney and a future first round pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a trade designed to free more cap space, the Associated Press is reporting.

The 76ers will throw in reserve forward Calvin Booth but are working out the particulars of what they will get back from Minnesota.

The deal clears the way for the Sixers to potentially offer a nearly $14 million starting salary and a long-term deal to free agents like forward Elton Brand or Josh Smith.</div>

What does he have other than his athletisism? Anything?

I'm hoping that he can help us out. I really hope this doesn't mean Gomes is gone.

Averaged 6pts and 2rbs for 70 games that he played as a reserve for the Sixers. Known as a tough defender.

About Gomes, hopefully he ends up in Beantown. [IMG]

    Carney isn't a tough defender...

I kind of liked him as a Sixer, but he's nothing to be excited about. You can find players like him all around the league. He was kind of a bust given who he was taken above of.

Well there you go Tim, Brian probably saw more 76ers games and knows more about Carney.

I think he might have been known as a tough defender in college, but it never transitioned to the NBA for whatever reason. He is very athletic though, he'll be exciting during a fast break.

Btw, the Sixers are my second team

    Kind of.

I'm not gonna get excited until one of them officially signs with us though.

Not really. A trade exception is extremely valuable in terms of cap room. It's like the same thing as having the ability to sign the free agent of your choice. It's almost as if by completing this transaction, the Wolves signed Carney and Booth to their current contracts.

As for Carney's defense, I'm with Brian, in that it's not that great, and it wasn't really in college either.
