QUOTE

Sources have confirmed that the Orlando Magic will sign free agent wing Mickael Pietrus to a contract on Wednesday. Terms of the deal are not yet known and we will be delivering updates as we learn more.
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...o_sign_pietrus/
I'm so pumped. I'm checking out some YouTube clips of him and he seems like a more athletic Mo Evans (with better defensive skills as well). This is a great pick up.
Yea, the Warriors forum has kind of put me off of him. Those dudes know their stuff and they almost universally considered him to be too dumb to make a consistent starter.

His defense is highly inconsistent as is his offense. Very streaky, not very mentally tough, dumb, he handles worse than most NBA PFs. He will hit corner 3's, finish around the rim, make very exciting plays, block shots (hes a very good shotblocker for his size) but his total production is just not worth 5-7 mils a year IMO. BTW Magic fans this video is really fun to watch, this will give you an idea of the great plays hes capable of making. When us W's fans first saw it we were excited but its been like 5 years and he still hasn't been able to consistently make great plays. Here (actually you're better off clicking on the link to watch the video on youtube and then selecting 'watch in high quality' instead of watching this grainy ass video lol):

We didn't spend the full MLE on him. We're splitting the MLE between Pietrus and either Keyon Dooling or another guy.
That seems a bit more reasonable, but I still think the Magic will regret not trying to give Dwight a legit frontcourt partner (especially with some of the recent moves by Eastern Conference teams).

I like Pietrus but not at the MLE. My friend is happy with this deal right now but I bet him $20 he will call Pietrus overpaid by the All-Star break.

MLE is expected to be just over 6 mils and Pietrus' deal is starting at 5.2.
Imagine if they waited a year and didn't give Rashard that contract and offered Brand 80 mill to play with Dwight, Nelson and Hedo. I'd bet he'd prefer that over Dalembert, Iggy, and Miller.

There was an article about it last year that explained why we couldn't wait for Gilbert Arenas, I forget all of the details. It was basically now or never if we wanted a superstar.

If the Cap is at 58 or 59 mill, we will say 58 mill. And we take off Rashard's 17.2 mill that earns this year, Then the Magic have 16.3 mill available to give to whoever they want this year. (15 mill to Brand for example)

I'll try to find the details.
Well unless Penny somehow takes up some of their cap this year, I don't see how the Magic wouldn't have 16 mill in cap space if Rashard wasn't signed.
