Apparently he agreed to a 5 year 50 million dollar deal. Yeah I know, I'll post a link but I just wanted to be the first to break the news. *edit - nevermind. Some clown just posted it before me
Great day for the Lakers! No Brand and Davis on the same team, and Maggette going to the W's won't make much of a difference.

I think 50mil @ 5 years is too much. I hope we trade him.
I just read it was for a little over the mid; starting at $6M. That's palatable. $50 for 5? Not palatable.
Janny Hu now reporting it as well: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Well, so much for waiting. With Elton Brand officially out of the picture, league sources told the Chronicle that the Warriors have reached an agreement with free agent forward Corey Maggette on a five-year deal worth between $40 and $50 million. More to come ...</div> http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/warrio...39&auth=155 Ugh.
I'm guessing a deal involving Harrington or Stephen Jackson may be on the works, that's too many slashers for one team.
The first thing that came to my mind was that thread "Mullin's done good, but now to avoid the mediocre deal" (or something like that). Looks like he couldn't.

I'm just hoping this was mis-reported and we only signed him to just over the MLE (starting at 6.5-7 mils). I guess Mully/Nelly want to compete this year, they'll probably use up the rest of the cap room on veterans either, I just don't see anyone out there good enough to make this team competitive in the west.
According to Ms. Hu, it's between $40M and $50M. If it's $40M over 5, I might be able to stomach it...barely...because I would like to have Maggette. If it's $50M, that's not good at all, I'd rather they had used some of that money for Hinrich. What a wacky offseason, I certainly never pictured anything like this for the Ws.

No one was putting this figure next to Maggette so its pretty shocking news. If its true, my only guess is that Mullin panicked when his primary FA targets went off the market and he overpaid to lure Maggette away from the contending teams. Still doesn't make any sense, though.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Golden State Warriors on Tuesday conceded defeat in the chase for Elton Brand's signature by quickly moving on to new targets and reaching a faster-than-expected verbal agreement to sign unrestricted free agent Corey Maggette, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources told ESPN.com that Maggette decided against waiting to see if the Los Angeles Clippers would lose Brand to the Philadelphia 76ers -- which could have created an opportunity to stay with the Clippers -- to take a multiyear offer from the Warriors at a starting salary above the mid-level exception, which is expected to approach $6 million. The Warriors and Clippers are two of the few teams with salary-cap space to spend on free agents above the mid-level, along with Memphis. Philadelphia was on that list before reaching a verbal agreement Tuesday to sign Brand away from the Clippers. Golden State responded to the loss of Baron Davis to the Clippers by offering Brand a five-year deal worth an estimated $90 million, but the Warriors never came as close to luring Brand away from L.A. as the Sixers. Maggette drew serious interest from several top contenders who are over the cap and only had the mid-level exception to offer, including Boston, San Antonio, Detroit, Utah, Cleveland and Orlando. It was presumed that Maggette was leaning toward signing with the Spurs if he couldn't secure an offer from a team with cap space. The Clippers, sources said, expected to respond to the departures of Brand and Maggette by making a hard run at Atlanta Hawks restricted free agent Josh Smith, who was Philadelphia's No. 2 target behind Brand. If the Clippers elect to sign Smith to an offer sheet, Atlanta would have seven days to match.</div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3479117 Hopefully the deal is close to the MLE.
I dont think it would be nearly as bad as Rashard's contract. He is probably worth 8 mill per year. Rashard was probably worth 12 and got paid 20.

If its starting at 8 and averaging 10 then WTF.
Basically sounds like he got a 5 year deal, starting at $6 million, probably 8-10% raises, with max signing bonus ($5.8 million). That would add up to about 41.8 million starting at exactly 6. There's probably a bit more than that. This means that we're not going after any other big name free agents, Mullin will go back to working on resigning Ellis/Biedrins, and perhaps a few role players.
by my number I meant 8 mill per year as an average over 5 years. So the equivalent of a 5 year 40 mill contract.
If it's 5 years 40 mils (6, 7, 8, 9, 10 mils), I would not mind too much. After all, he can drop 20 pts in any given night. But, if it's 50 mils... I guess we got old Mullin back. I wonder what Maggette can do. He always seemed to put good numbers, but for some reason, he was always in Dunleavy's dog house...
