can we plz wait until midway or after preseason before we decide on who makes the team and not? i take absolutely nothing away from summer league. these are pick up games compared to nba standards with some teams, who have rosters that dont consist of one nba player. carrol may be good, or may not but lets reserve judgement and see how he handles nba level compeition

Sonics could have traded down and got more value, they could have gotten Love or Bayless, or gotten a guy like Chalmers later in the draft. All those guys will be better than Westbrook. I bet CDR will be better than Westbrook.</div> well, id rather take a risk on westbrook now then ryan anderson and maybe even cdr
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (FOMW @ Jul 10 2008, 12:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I like Carroll to line up in the back court (in limited minutes) with Vince when Harris is on the bench or at times when the Nets offense needs some punch. He wouldn't have to guard the much bigger 2 guards and wouldn't have to play the point, since Vince can do both of those things. Then he can focus on the things he does really well, like moving to open spots and shooting and taking the occasional drive when it presents itself. And imagine the luxury of having a guy like him to bring in for a last possession with the team down 3. I concur 100% that he is a cheap sharpshooter/Eddie House type except that I believe he will be a more consistent shooter than House, given his percentages in college. The guy can flat out stroke it.</div> Yeah that works. The PG or SG just comes back down the court and matches the point production.
Bobby Simmons is a career 39.0% three point shooter, peaking at 43.5% in his best year. I know people forget he is on the team, but compare his career three point shooting to James Jones, supposed assasin beyond the arc or Eddie House. Jones 39.9% career, House 40.8% What that means in real world terms is that if all three took 100 shots, House would make two more than Simmons and one more than Jones...in other words, the difference is essentially meaningless.
My concern for Simmons, based solely on what I read from those that watched him a lot since injury, is that he may not move well enough defensively or contribute enough on the other end to merit a lot of minutes. His shooting percentages also dipped significantly last year (even including his very hot April). However, if he recaptures some of his lost mobility and can resume where his shooting left off at the end of last year, he will be a nice veteran presence and compliment to the slashing of Devin and VC and post play of Lopez. Fingers crossed.
Another thing that I like about this guy is that he's an automatic FT shooter. Every team needs one of those.

we should sign carroll or else the nets are going to tap eddie gill again from the d-league or sign some washed-up veteran...

I'm excited to see Boone at the line this coming season. He had a big turnaround about halfway through the season- thanks to intense workouts with Kiki. His percentages were so low at the end of the season because they were atrocious at the beggining to the middle of the season, but he got much better as it went on, it was just so hard to bring those numbers up. I can see him being around 60% this season, which may not be great but it's a hell of a lot better than last season.

He is supposed to be playing for the Nets in Utah in a week or so. Evidently you are not bound to just one team in summer league but can play in successive leagues for different teams. It will be interesting if the Nets give him a camp invite and, if they do, whether he accepts.
