Since it's two years, it can't be too bad.

I think the Nets are a good destination for wing players trying to prove something. I'm sure his agent was very amenable.

I just re-read it. He got the bi-annual LLE. 2 years at $1.91mm per. Not bad. We still have our full MLE.

    That's a terrific deal. I don't see a downside.

Yes, will he start though since our SF position is thin to say the least. He's a pretty good player. And since he was a Piston he has to be good at d, no?

Possibly. But at least it will be more consistant. Boki is the definition of a streaky shooter. Some nights you know the ball is going in and other nights you don't even have to watch the shot to know he's going to miss. I'll still miss him though.

I don't think anything is guaranteed to anyone on this team other than Carter and Harris.

wow! nice job by the nets...hayes provides depth, toughness and some outside shooting at a cheap price...but they're still talking to najera! booo... i have nothing against najera and he would be nice to have but how many forwards do we need? i actually wanted the nets to sign hayes and pietrus and trade marcus for belinelli. we couldn't give pietrus that rich a contract he got from the magic but we got hayes so i'm happy...

    Agreed.

Dont count out Bobby Simmons who if healthy can be a more productive player than Hayes. Overall I like this signing, hes a solid bench player whose not costing the team anything and his contract is up in 2 years! It's win, win situation for the Nets and I have a good feeling about this guy really doing well on our team. [IMG]</br>

Nice bench depth pickup at a good price. Sad to see if Boki is gone though. Now if they could get Dooling or even Daniel Gibson with the MLE for two years that would be awesome. That puts the Nets roster at 14 guaranteed contracts as of now with one open roster spot left. Get a trade done and ship out some bigs out along with Hassell, Simmons, and Marcus and get a nice starting big and SF.

Not really, Hayes was pretty comfortable chucking up 3's on a regular in both Washington and Detroit but while inconsistent minutes wreaked havoc with getting a flow going some nights he was still a guy who would make you pay for leaving him open. He's really not much of a downgrade from Boki and his 2.5 retarded turnovers a game and week long cold streaks.

We're spending very little on a guy who is looking to prove he deserves regular burn and it's great for our depth. I like this a whole lot more than I did of possibly adding Roger Mason.

Get to know Jarvis Hayes better.

Apparently he missed a combined 90 games the first 2 seasons of his career with an injury. He was taken 10th overall in 2003 by the Wizards, below is an interview he had a year ago still with the wizards. It seems that there is still some upside left to Hayes and he hasn't hit his ceiling as far as his potential to be better is concerned. He went off this season against the Hornets March 16th going 7-8 from 3pt land, finished with 29pts, not sure if you guys remember that.

    [/FUN FACT: HE's a TWIN!!!

Nice job by the FO here, we got him at a great price. It's encouraging that he played 82 games last year and it was his most efficient season yet. I've always liked the guy, I hope he exceeds my expectations.

I like that he is only 26 and isn't close to being washed up yet. solid pick up and I'm very happy. Don't see why we need Najera now. I turned on MSG and it said the Nets are involved in trade talks with the bulls and nuggets (camby) involving Marcus Williams and Nenad Kristic. It didn't give much info though.

I don't know much about Hayes can someone give me an accurate scouting report on him.

as long as it won't cost us josh boone, marcus camby would be a great pickup especially if we're only giving away krstic (has become redundant) and marcus williams (absolutely no defense whatsoever).

What do you want to know?

    He's been injured a lot.

He can be kind of a chucker, but that's his job and he has played limited minutes.

He's more of a scorer than a pure shooter, even though his stroke is gorgeous and he has great size to get his shot away.

He is OK defensively, but that's not really his role.

Basically, he's willing to play for this low salary because he sees the potential to make an impact on a team that's begging for a scoring wing. He can definitely put up points, he's proven that. What he hasn't proven is that he can be consistent with his shot and he definitely hasn't proven he can be effective with starters' minutes. Can he guard an NBA wing for an entire game? Can he stay healthy with extended time?

There's an opportunity for him here. Boki played 22 MPG last year. Jarvis hasn't done that for a while. When he did, he was terrible (38% shooting, ouch) and he just couldn't stay on the court. Recently, there are signs he is putting things together, but that's with the reduced minutes and reduced responsibilities.

He's still young and he's just at the point where he could start showing some real improvement. We'll see how much he wants it and if he's capable of taking advantage.

Best thing is the Nets didn't use their MLE on this so they can still get another quality bench player in the backcourt and offer the full MLE over two years. The Cavs are over the luxury tax so you think they would match the full MLE for Daniel Gibson?

I don't think Jarvis' shot is any more consistent than Boki's (maybe a little, but don't expect Ray Allen).

What's good about him is he has to be better defensively (can't be worse) and he is a whole lot cheaper.
