This is great. I loved him on the Wizards, he was a good scoring punch off the bench there.

I always crossed my fingers hoping we'd be able to pick him up, but I figured it was a longshot, especially with a team like Detroit signing him. This is a sweet move, definitely better and less confusing than Najera.

    I approve, I give this move a B.

By the way, does this mean no Najera? And no Nocioni? And no JR Smith?

Definitely one of Kiki's fallen angels.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Hayes’ agent, Dan Fegan, has a strong relationship with new Nets GM Kiki Vandeweghe. They got together on several signings, including Kenyon Martin and Nene, with the Nuggets. Fegan also represents new Net Yi Jianlian. The Nets had a meeting later on Thursday night with another Fegan client, Denver free agent forward Eduardo Najera.</div>

    And for cheap too!

I am somewhat worried about the glut of forwards made by this signing, however, especially with time given to the rookies. Since Jarvis is a young guy, it's not as big a deal to me. It seems like Najera would be wasting his time and prime on the Nets, however.

"It's close," Hayes said of a possible deal with the Nets. "There is definitely some interest there. And interest here. I can't talk too much about it."

Hayes, a 6-8, 228-pound small forward, is considered a good shooter, an average at best defender. But he would give the Nets some more of the perimeter scoring and experience they seek.

"They're still a very highly competitive team," Hayes said of the Nets. "I see myself coming in and if everything works out, being a pretty good piece for them. They've got a very good head coach and V.C. [Vince Carter Vince Carter ]. So we'll see. It's a highly competitive team."

I like this signing a lot. Hayes is a good player, why not give him a chance to prove himself while we're rebuilding?

I think this is a solid pick up and for very cheap, too. Two years is a a good amount of time to try to prove yourself for a fatter contract and like many have said, he's only 26. He can be a streaky shooter but at least he's an average defender unlike Mr. Boki Nachbar whom I saw in way too many games get blown by like Sasha Vujacic in the 2008 finals (human statue defense, not even matador defense).

I like it...totally came out of nowhere. I honestly didn't even know he was a free agent. He should provide a good spark off the bench, and he's still pretty young, and it's a really cheap deal. Good stuff.

Jarvis is a solid role player. He's a very good pickup at a very reasonable salary.

If Travis Best can come in and take Kmart's #6, anything is possible.

Just look at it this way.

The Nets got the most useful player available who was willing to take a two year deal for the LLE.

That's a coup. Lots of teams would love to have him for that price.

I like the signing and wouldn't be surprised if he outperforms Najera and Simmons at the 3. He'll get more minutes than he would have if he had stayed in Detroit, and perform well enough to get a better contract from some other team.

I guess I am the only one who sees this as a very stupid waste of money (even if it is cheap).

I sorta like the Najera signing. But why the hell did we waste money on Jarvis Hayes? He's garbage. And especially when we already have Simmons, Anderson and Najera at the 3 (with Yi playing a bit of that position too); and with Ager and CDR at the 2. Do we really need him? What happened to what Thorn was preaching about us developing players (ie- Anderson and CDR)? And I thought we needed a backup PG?

I bet he wont last on this team the whole season and gets dealt by the trade deadline. IMHO, and at the risk of being flamed here, this is a very stupid FA signing. But then again, this team in the Thorn era has had a long history of bad FA signings. This one just continues the streak.

I don't understand it either. However, the successful teams have capable players as their tenth-12th men. If that's all they see him as, that's fine.
