He has a small buyout. It was mostly done for possible future trades (ala David Wesley last year).

A player can't be signed and traded (like KVH was) unless they have at least a 3 year deal. Now the way around that is to only have the first year guaranteed.

The beauty of KVH's contract is that he can be trade and his salary can count in the trade math, but as soon as the trade is completed, KVH's contract can be bought out for a very cheap price.

So yes, technically his contract is on the Nets cap for that amount, but KVH will never get that full amount from the Nets or any other team.

And the Nets will no doubt be paying that small buyout in any deal they make...so the other team gets to dump whoever they're trying to dump and has to pay nothing but KVH's airfare to and from his physical. If the Nets involved KVH in a deal with Denver, they could send a car out to his house to pick him up. [IMG]

I assume KVH's deal mirrors that of David Wesley's from last year. Wesley announced he was retiring but never put his retirement papers in. He has $1.75 million contract with a $250,000 buyout. So the Nets traded Ilic and Robinson and cash considerations to the Hornets for Wesley just before the season began. As soon as all three passed their physicals, they were released. It was the second time Wesley's contract had been traded. He had gone from the Cavs to the Hornets in return for Cedric Simmons.

I don't remember his trade number, but I think it was something like $4.7M. The buyout is maybe $300K? (Sorry if I'm off. Can't look it up from here.)
I also think he has to be traded before Oct. 1.

Yes it is true. You can not combine a TE with a player

A TE is created when there is a difference in salaries and the team receiving less salary is over the cap.

Since the Nets and Mavs traded so many players it was 2 different trades. One involved the TE and a player. Then JKidd was bundled with others, and traded a group of players.

    To trade [IMG]

You just can't package it with a player.

TE can be traded for a player who has a salary equal to or less than the amount of the TE.

Anything else we could use the exception for?

I thought we could use it to sign a player, but I'm not sure, because I barely know anything about TE's.

I think you can use it to pick guys off waivers.
