This is from a reliable source: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Ran into Hoiberg and Stack yesterday here in Vegas. Will be sitting by Fred during the Wolves game. Fred said Pooh Jeter has been playing great, and will start at point guard for the squad. Kevin Martin told me a couple years ago Pooh was the best point he's ever played with, and I think he has a shot at making the team though he's undersized. They also said Brewer was shooting the ball quite well in practices, and that I'd be surprised by how much he's improved in that area. Love looked great in the practices, and Foye really enjoyed playing with the guys for two days. I'm here for the duration, so maybe I will post more thoughts after the game tonight.</div> Link
This is one of the few non-Warriors SL games I'll watch because it has al ot of college players I liked. Kevin Love's debut will be interesting but I also want to see Brewer, Longar Longar, Bryce Taylor, Carney, Neitzel, and Richard.

Link Recap: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>AS VEGAS, July 14 ?€“ The Dallas Mavericks ruined Kevin Love?€™sNBA debut as they crushed the Minnesota Timberwolves 88-74 in the final game at COX Pavilion Monday night. JaJuan Smith led all scorers with 19 points off the bench for the Mavericks. Despite trailing by six early in the first quarter the Mavericks closed out the quarter on a 19-6 run earning a seven point lead heading into the second quarter. The Mavericks continued their dominance of the Timberwolves in the second quarter building their lead to as many as 24, their largest lead of the game. Minnesota?€™s effort was led by Kevin Love who tallied 18 points and a league high 13 points and Blake Ahearn who contributed 17 points off the bench. Notes: The Mavericks will take Tuesday off and return to the hardwood on Wednesday as they take on the Sacramento Kings at COX Pavilion. The Timberwolves will also take Wednesday off and resume their summer league play on Wednesday as they host the L.A. Lakers at Thomas & Mack.</div>
First off, Shake your avvy is disturbingly cute...lol. bak the task at hand. That was a very good first showing for Love. His Basketball IQ is great and that should allow him to put himself in postion to grab many rebounds. not to mention that he has serious poise...just goes with the flow and doesn't force things...good pick up for 'Sota. I'm starting to feel more at ease, but watching Mayo still has me thinking something big is in store for him. But when all is said and done, I also get the feeling that after Mayo's initial rookie contract runs out, he would have bolted from Minnesota for a bigger media market team. Love on the other hand I can see staying with the club and forming a nucleus with Big Al & Foye many years during and after Mayo has his free-agent bidding wars!

I could very well see Mayo bolting from a place like Minnesota or Memphis for a bigger-market team. As much as I am infatuated with Mayo, he's not a guy that I look at and can confidently say "he's going to stay loyal to this team his whole career." I could very well see him jumping ship for a place like New York, LA, Miami, etc. in a few years.
Minnesota trading Mayo for Love and Miller was ridiculously stupid. Even if he threatened to bolt you could have traded him for more in a year or 2, (while in the meantime he puts butts in the seats) and have gotten more value when hes proven himself to be an all-star caliber player.

With this they get Love who looks to be a very good player who seems to have the makeup of a player who will want to stay in Minnesota and the get Miller who looks to be happy coming to Minnesota, provides the outside shooting and when his contract is up in 2010 (along with Cardinal's 6.5 mil) Miller might either take a reasonable contract to stay in Minny or just those two contracts combined will free up 16 mil for the Big free-agent class of 2010. not to mention getting rid of Jaric's contract that runs through 2011. Love is actually getting alotta love from the T-Wolves fan-base and maybe wasn't such a bad move after all. All I'm saying is that evne though i would still like Mayo (for all the same reasons you stated) getting a possible 15ppg 10rpg 4apg guy along with Miller (20+ppg man in this offense) for at least 2 years and the possiblity of at least 20 overall mil in cap space for free-agent run 2010...sounds good to me....oh and Sota has a possible four 1st rounders and two 2nd rounders next year....I'm actually pretty comfortable with that!
I would like to see Minnesota improve as well. But not many free agents are going to actually want to go to minnesota in the summer of 2010. Minnesota unfortunately is probably one of the least desirable places (along with Milwaukee and OKC) in the nba
Neitzel doing Neitzel so far - 4-5 FG with no assists. At least he's not as bad as Mayo. Every time I look at Mayo's A/TO ratios I've got to cringe. I think he's something like 8/20 on the SL so far.

Many teams who have a big talent with a high price tag who are looking to rebuild will be looking at Minnesota's picks and young players and start making calls. Philly already showed a lil glimmer of what can really amp up come draft time next year. As much as I hate to admit it, McHale made a great deal for Carney, and expiring contract (Booth) and a 1st round pick for what amounts to a future 2nd round pick (that they still have a chance at keeping) and 2.8 mil trade exception that was going to expire. As far as young rebuilding teams, Minnesota is starting to look like it's headed in the right direction and can turn it's luck around.
Just read this on another forum, looks like we'll be seeing Pops Mensah-Bonsu in a Wolves summer league uni. Only problem is he has a 1 year deal with DKV Joventut, a team in Spain.
Wolves-Lakers Recap: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>LAS VEGAS, July 16 – Los Angeles Lakers 2008 NBA Draft selection Joe Crawford came up big for his new team Wednesday night, scoring the game-winning basket with 2.9 seconds left as his Lakers defeated Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves, 95-93, at the Thomas & Mack Center as part of the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA Sports. Crawford’s last-minute heroics were complemented by Nik Caner-Medley’s 19 points and Coby Karl's 14. “It just felt good. We were struggling, but I got off to a great start in the second half and I couldn’t buy a bucket – but then I just focused in and believed I could do it, and I did,” said Crawford, who played collegiately at Kentucky. Second-year forward Corey Brewer scored 19 points and 2008 lottery pick Kevin Love added 18 and 17 rebounds in a huge performance for Minnesota. The Lakers held a 26-21 lead after one quarter, riding Crawford’s eight first-quarter points. All 10 players who saw action in the second quarter for Los Angeles scored, including six points from UCLA product Lorenzo Mata-Real that helped widen the lead to 52-44 at halftime. The Timberwolves battled back in the third quarter, tying the game at 59-59 with three minutes to play in the period. It was a seesaw game thereafter, with Minnesota gaining a 93-93 tie on a three-point play by Pooh Jeter.</div> Link Boxscore

Wolves-Blazers recap: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Kevin Love tallied 26 points and 15 rebounds and lifted the Minnesota Timberwolves over the Portland Trail Blazers 88-78 in the final game at Cox Pavilion on Thursday night. Supporting Love for the Timberwolves was Blake Ahearn with 14 points. The Blazers were led by Jerryd Bayless who recorded a game high 29 points and six rebounds while Petteri Koponen added 14 points. The Timberwolves led by one at the end of the first quarter and by four at the half before they took a commanding lead in the third quarter leading by as many as 15. The Blazers shot .558 percent from the field (29-52) in the game while the Timberwolves hit just .423 percent (30-71). Post #1,000!!!!
1,000... right on. So for the Wolves, Neitzel got the start vs. the Blazers. However, three games into it, Neitzel's averaging 0.0 apg. Niiice. At least Love's dominating. With his 26/15 outing he pushed his averages on the summer to 21 ppg, 15 rpg. "Summer league is summer league, blah, blah, blah," but okay, that's still better than just about any other rookie has done this summer.
