<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In less than a year, Marco Belinelli went from summer-league phenomenon to cautionary tale. He is the player mentioned most in conjunction with Anthony Randolph's big debut Friday, mostly as a reminder to temper expectations.

"There were a lot of problems," Belinelli said of his rookie season with the Warriors. "I started very well, but after that, I don't know why I didn't play that good basketball. I guess I probably need some defense ... but I try to do work every day and get ready for the season."

For Belinelli, who got his driver's license two weeks ago, the challenge remains to navigate his way into coach Don Nelson's rotation. It helped that he scored a game-high 25 points Sunday in the Warriors' 96-85 win over the Mavs, at times looking like the dead-eye shooter who became a crowd favorite last July.

Belinelli also led the Warriors with three assists, two coming on nice passes to Brandan Wright that ended in dunks.

"That's one thing I have to improve," Belinelli said. "Pass the ball, to try to go inside and take some fouls. If one player doesn't want to pass the ball or wants to shoot every time, we can't win this game. We have to play together.

"I know, this is my second year. I know better."

Randolph injured: Randolph's status for Tuesday's game is in doubt after he rolled his left ankle trying to catch a wayward pass from C.J. Watson late in the first quarter.

Though Randolph returned in the second and finished with 11 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes, he was walking with a heavy limp and an ice wrap afterward.

"It's in a lot of pain now, but I just wanted to finish the game," Randolph said. "I'll probably rest it tomorrow and see how it goes."

The Clippers have shut down rookie Eric Gordon for the rest of the summer league after the No. 7 pick pulled his hamstring Saturday.

Free-agent update: The Warriors aren't sitting by idly as they wait to see if the Lakers match Golden State's four-year, $17 million offer to Ronny Turiaf.

The team continues to make inquiries into acquiring a point guard, league sources said, though it appears unlikely that a big name like Chauncey Billups or Kirk Hinrich will be landing in Oakland soon.

Indications are that the Warriors are intent on having Monta Ellis replace Baron Davis at the point and giving Ellis room to grow.

Vice president Chris Mullin said that talks on contracts for Ellis and Andris Biedrins, both restricted free agents, remain ongoing.

And though a league source said Ellis has drawn sign-and-trade interest from the Heat, Cavs and Blazers, nothing is likely to materialize. Any scenario would require approval from the Warriors, who are intent on keeping Ellis and Biedrins.</div>

Tonight the announcer called him "Belliiiiiiiiini"...kind funny. Anyway, everyone looks pretty good in the first quarter. Watson 2-3, 4 ast, 3 stl. Wright is a total 14-20 FG in 2+ games. Kind of bummed that Randolph is out and it looks like Hendrix is not going to play again either. What is it with Warriors getting injured in summer league?

Heard that too. Marco's doing well tonight. Moving fluidly and making nice, crisp passes at the right time. Not necessarily turning into assists, but he is a playmaker.

Somebody has to spread the floor with that outside shooting and Bell-ee-nee is doing really well at that (even converted some and1 plays behind the arc and going toward the basket). The starting lineup featured 3 power forwards as small forward, power forward, and center.

I like some of the play from Amundson. Amundson is playing way out of position but he's looking like he's really hungry. He could be a nice player who can hustle maybe like a David Lee type player but not quite the athleticism or technical skill. I like Amundson. 10th, 11th or 12th man? For sure. We never know if our skinny dudes might get injured.

P.S. The mc is loud and annoying!

I like Amundson's energy. He seems pretty poised and plays to his strengths.

Bellinelli is impressing me with his pick-n-roll passes. IMO, he runs it better than Baron Davis. Baron always seemed to hold onto to the ball a second or two too long and would be forced to create a play off by juking his defender. Marco is making the pass so he doesn't have to do that (granted, he probably can't do it like Baron). But by passing at the right time gives the screener a better chance at finishing at the basket or creating a play by the basket. It allows the passer to cut to the basket or get to an open area for a shot.

Sorry, I don't mean to rant about the pick-n-roll. It was just one of the main go-to sets the Warriors went to last year and I don't think it was run to perfection.

Oh yeah, the MC thinks this is an And-1 event.

It's not just you. All these summer league games are so hard to watch because of the fouls. Does anyone else think they should just scrap the foul shots and award a point for each foul instead? Let them practice foul shots on their own time. 57 foul shots through 3 quarters, it's brutal. [IMG]

I'm about to fall asleep... Guys just breathe on each other and it's a whistle. If the fouls are even my money's are on the Warriors when it comes to free throw efficiency. That's pretty scary.

The worst thing about this over officiating is that nobody is getting any rebounds because of it.

A real foul by CJ. I like that. The vet welcoming the rookie to the NBA.

I'm lapsing in and out of consciousness this game is so freaking boring... Why am I watching this? It's summer league. Brian Cardinal could bust up this league and we're gauging performances by this? I figure the only merit of watching this game where nobody has had time to play together is to watch what individual guards can do in game situations. There's no big man play involved and it's all small forwards, guards going to the rack. Occasionally there's an Ike Diogu or Ryan Gomes that tears it up.

What will make up for this boring game is if Belinelli starts getting clutch and maybe nails a game winning buzzer beater.

Watson is a stud. Jeez. I know he ain't going to be all that at the nba level, but he is attacking the rim with reckless abandon. He's already a better backup for the Warriors than Derek Fisher IMO.

I like it when Watson and Belinelli are getting it done at the foul line. That's a little less boring than watching Bobcats shoot free throws. Watson 80% on free throws. Belinelli was perfect. Watson was most impressive as he shot the most free throws and did it very accurately.

I'm predicting game winner by Bellinelli (3) or Wright (dunk).

EDIT: nevermind, it's going to end in free throws...

Clutch free throws. That's still clutch. Not sure Baron or Jrich could have saved us in that department. They'd probably give the other team the win and that's not good when your 20ppg scorers can't hit 80% consistently. Baron was decent last season, but in the playoffs two years ago... wow. Missing both in a crucial moment of the game was just really terrible. Ellis has a chance to improve. Randolph was 70% in his one year of college, but I think he can raise that higher. Wright showed improvement to be 70% which is decent by big man standards. Biedrins isn't very good, but how many centers really do well in that department other than Yao Ming and maybe somebody else that's not as good as Yao Ming? Maybe Brad Miller, Mehmet Okur and Zydrunas Illgauskus.

Yeah Watson's been looking good scoring the blal the last few games. Looks like hes really honed in that jumper and hes able to hit that pull up jumper very well. Also driving right into the teeth of the defense and forcing contact. Hes had tunnel vision so far though, hopefully that'll change come the regular season.

Don't really know where to post this but here's some quick W's notes from Janny Hu including Randolph officially signing today, an update on Azu, and an update on the W's search for a backup PG:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>No longer in Las Vegas, but here's a couple of quick notes. (Extended views from our 3-day stay to follow).

    # On his 19th birthday, Anthony Randolph officially signed with the Warriors today. Like all first-round rookie deals, it's for two years with team options for the third and fourth seasons. Randolph, the 14th overall pick, will make about $3.5 million in his first two seasons.

I'm told that Randolph, who sprained his left ankle in Sunday's game, did not go through shootaround this morning. I'd be suprised if he played tonight against Charlotte -- it's just not worth it. The Warriors' next game isn't until Friday, so might as well give him a few more days to rest/recover.

    # When I asked on Sunday, the Warriors still hadn't started substantial contract talks with Richard Hendrix, but there's no pressing need to get that done quickly.

    # Kelenna Azuibuke, who is training in Vegas at Joe Abunassar's Impact facility, stopped by to say hello to the coaches during the Warriors' opener on Friday. And his agent, Mike Higgins, has been chatting with Warriors' execs quite a bit. (He also reps C.J. Watson and Louis Amundson).

Not sure about the chances of all three making it to training camp with the Warriors, but Azubuike is guaranteed to be on an NBA roster. Higgins says teams are interested, but the problem with all restricted free agents is that teams are weary of making offers if they think the offer will be matched. Azubuike will likely be waiting for the big names to settle before his talks heat up.

    # With the list of free agent point guards thinning, (I'm told Delonte West was high on the Warriors' list, but is believed to be signing a nice deal elsewhere; Anthony Carter and Anthony Johnson are also off the market), Golden State might end up going the trade route. Memphis has three -- O.J. Mayo, Mike Conley, and Javaris Crittendon -- playing in Vegas (at the same time, no less, making for a very strange lineup) and Crittendon would fit the Warriors' desire for a big guard to put next to Monta Ellis. It doesn't appear that they'd be interested in Stephon Marbury if he's bought out by the Knicks.</div>

Wow CJ Watson had 16 free throws. Either he really decided to attack the hoop and perhaps has always been pretty decent at getting to the line, or the referees were really blowing the whistles like you guys were saying.

I am hoping Marco and CJ have impressive regular seasons. They seem to have the ability. They just need to get over the hump a bit and find their comfort and spaces on the floor. CJ/Marco/Randolph/Wright could be a pretty decent bench squad.

Hey, Andris is still improving! Improved 22 points on his FT% from year 1 to year 2, and another 10 points from year 2 to 3. That's huge. Let's project that curve of improving about 50% over the previous year's improvement:

    2005-06 30.6% -----
    2006-07 52.1% +21.5%
    2007-08 62.0% + 9.9%
    ---------------------------
    2008-09 67.0% +5.0%
    2009-10 69.5% +2.5%
    2010-11 70.2% +1.2%
    2011-12 70.8% +0.6%
    2012-13 71.1% +0.3%

    That's almost respectable for a C.
