I just had a lengthy rant about this over the weekend after a few shots of whiskey and a few pitchers of beer.
who remember when they actually had to work at something on the real world, instead of just being juiced up sluts?
MTV is the worst shit on TV. I remember getting up before school, watching some vids, them coming back from school and watching more. Heck, i ever remember korn was the first rock band ever to get the number 1 spot on TRL for freak on a leash... those were the days.
Up here they don't even try to pretend anymore. Because of Canadian television restrictions, they aren't allowed to show music videos so its just hour after hour of crappy reality television.
I remember Michael Jackson's Remember the Time video... eh. Beavis and Butthead was great, and I enjoyed Celebrity Deathmatch back in the day as well.
tis full of crap now a days. The only non-music thing i ever watched on MTV was jackass, Dirty Sanchez and Viva La Bam. Now it's just full of crap.
t.v. in general has changed drastically over the last 15-20 years or so (at least in the U.S.). While watching the Allstar game last night I saw advertisements for FOX's local afternoon programming in Houston. Sadly the entire afternoon consisted of judge shows. I remember as a child getting home and 3 networks (on regular t.v.) having an afternoon filled with cartoons for children to enjoy. Saturday mornings were even better, because major networks like NBC, ABC, and CBS would join in on the fun also, lol. The problem I see mainly with T.V. right now is all of the reality shows. Seriously if it's not sports, LOST, Law and Order SVU, or an occassional South Park episode I'm not watching T.V.....I hate the judge shows (which are like talk shows), american idol, who wants to be a billionaire, you think you can dance, or any other retarded ass programming having to do with a group of random people living with one another just so they can sleep together while trying not to kill each other.................................seriously speaking reality television is killing television.
Is it a bad thing they don't play music anymore? I'm all for playing good music, but the music out there these days is pure crap. The worst thing about the new MTV are these ridiculous emo bands they promote. They're really focussed on the lowest common denominator, and a large part of that is the 7-15 yr old market that eats that sh*t up. The early 90's MTV was pretty good. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Dr. Dre, Tupac, Biggie, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. Music in general was great back then. Rap was at the top of it's game, the teen angst music was actually produced in a listenable form (grunge), and the idea of emo didn't exist yet.

I worked in a restaurant in High School and after we closed we would flip on the big screen TV to MTV and listen to music as we cleaned the place. I also remember in college coming back to the fraternity house after classes and watching Yo! MTV Raps

Battlestar Gallactica is more than just a sci-fi tv show, it's well written and has great acting in it. Dexter is a darkly humored show about a closet serial killer who only kills serial killers and who's daytime job is a police detective who, well work in serial killer cases. Rome - ended sadly Deadwood - Done too The Wire - just ended it's 5 seasons but is possibly one of the best shows ever on TV Weeds just to name a few. there are even good reality tv shows. Top Chef - on the food network, qualified and talented young chefs via for the title of top chef by going through various cooking challenges. You have skilled ppl plying their talent to win this reality show. I enjoy it. The Ultimate Fighter (of course ) - Winning is based solely on winning fights. If you get past the big 4 networks and the crap they're ramming down your throats, there are good shows to watch.

I barely watch MTV anymore (and that includes M2, MTVBASE, MTVDANCE, and all those other crap sister channels). As for the reality shows, they just made a channel solely for reality shows in Israel, and I must say, you can't watch that channel for more than an hour or you'll probably feel an urge to jump out the window. Reality TV is mostly crap, but I admit, I'm hooked on Survivor and The Amazing Race.
