Is there interest on SportsTwo for CIS Basketball?
I know, especially since I'll be at Brock this year, I'll be paying attention, even more.
What about you guys. (Talking to the Canadians and interested Americans)
I could keep you guys updated, if there is interest

I'd love to talk CIS and OUA ball with someone.

It's too bad you just missed a hellva year at Brock. You missed your chance to see the great Bradley Rootes.

I'm thinking the men's title stays in the OUA (but look out for Alberta) it may even be York's year.

I wonder what Smart is going to do to bounce back from not winning a championship. We know he's with the men's NT this summer so it's not as if he's had a lot of time to recruit/ run early practices.

On the women's side - probably the Thunderbirds but I think the Gee-gee might make some noise.

Luckily, i did get a chance to see Rootes play a few times during his career. I actually saw Florida come up to Canada for exhibition games at Brock. One against Brock and One against the Guelph All-Stars. Sick seeing Noah, Brewer and Horford in person. Actually saw Andy Katz as well. I went nuts when Brock won the CIS Basketball title. Happened the same day Kansas won the Big 12 Title! And Rootes went to school in Niagara Falls, sadly at AN Myer though, a rival school. Rootes was actually at the Niagara Falls Review tournament in which i helped out at early this year. Two of my best friend were stars of the tournament. One led a bad team into the tournament. Played sick but manged to play awesome. Other scored 20 in one half to be named to the All-Star team, the same kid that got the OFSAA award earlier this month.

Here's the article for the OFSAA award, and yes i attend Westlane along with my friend

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In association with Canada Basketball, OFSAA is pleased to announce the two winners of the 2008 Canada Basketball Scholarship. Congratulations to deserving recipients Grace Fishbein of Bluevale CI in Waterloo and Jordan Mann of Westlane SS in Niagara Falls, who will each receive $1,250 towards their post-secondary education.

Created in 2006, the Canada Basketball Be One Scholarship Program awards one male and one female student-athlete each year who show academic success, leadership in the amateur sport community though participation as a high school basketball athlete, and other school and community activities. The selection is based on the individuals who best exemplify the ideals of the student-athlete who is continuing post-secondary education in Canada.

OFSAA received numerous applications from student-athletes across the province, but with their extensive involvement in their schools and communities, as well as their academic excellence, these two students stood out from the pack.</div>

I've been pretty apathetic about Canadian college sports, given how pathetic UofT's football squad is, but I was able to get into our basketball team towards the end of the year. I wouldn't mind learning more and becoming more of an observer.

Canadian college basketball is to American college basketball as a watered down version of the USBL is to the NBA. The best Canadian high school players don't even play in Canada. They'd rather come over to the states and play in reserve roles for midmajor squads.

Its great watching homegrown players play and potentially showcase themselves for our national programs. Any NCAA fan should know that you can find an inferior product more entertaining when fans are more attached to the teams.

Also, if UBC gets their way, some Canadian universities might end up playing in the NCAA.

Canada doesn't homegrow basketball players though. They homegrow hockey players and those guys who skate around with brooms.

wow, you really don't know what you are talking about.

sure the american system with their billion dollar television deals can afford the best facilities, the best coaches and attract the best players the world over but that doesn't mean that there aren't great ball player at Canadian universities and colleges.

BTW, i'm not sure this is the best time to tout the virtures of the american system considering the best prospect opted not to play in the AA this season and head to europe instead.

Brock will definately not repeat this year. Going to try and catch a couple games this year. I know some people on the Golden Hawks and Brock so that should be a good one to watch.
