COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Ticker) -- One day after receiving a favorable report on his right knee, Chicago Bulls rookie Derrick Rose was one of 10 young players chosen Wednesday to the United States Select team that will practice next week against the American Olympic squad.

The No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, Rose missed the final three games of the Bulls' summer-league play in Orlando after hurting his knee on a jump shot in the lane.

But an MRI taken Tuesday revealed that Rose only has a mild case of tendinitis in the knee.

"A precautionary MRI was normal, and Rose will continue therapy and be monitored very close," Bulls physician Dr. Brian Cole said in a statement released by the team.

Bulls general manager John Paxson has indicated that Rose will go on a program to strengthen muscles around the affected area to ease the ailment, which dates to his freshman year at Memphis.

The other nine players chosen to the Select team by USA Basketball were Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and Jeff Green, Houston's Luther Head, Atlanta's Al Horford, Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala, Sacramento's Kevin Martin, Memphis' O.J. Mayo and Detroit's Rodney Stuckey.

Two additional players will be picked from the NBA's Summer League, which concludes Sunday in Las Vegas. The Select team will begin training on Sunday and scrimmage with the Olympic squad from Monday through July 24 in preparation for the Olympics next month in Beijing.

Cool. Will he play in it though (injury might prevent that)?

Does it matter? The Select Team is basically a practice team for Team USA. Maybe someone upstairs thought Head's game was similar to something they'd face in the actual Olympics. Who knows, but the fact is, it doesn't really matter. It's a good opportunity for these guys to show their worth to the USA staff for future Senior Team selections, but outside of that, it's just more basketball that these young guys have to play between now and training camp. Positives and negatives considered, the whole thing's a push.

I don't see why he gets no respect. If someone offers you Head, don't turn it down!
