Or are they going to dump him next year for an expiring deal?

Ratner Loves carter. I think they wont do this unless they are blown away with an offer which probably wont happen.

In all honesty I think it depends on how he plays.

If he plays great and him and Harris are a great backcourt I don't see why it doesn't make things more attractive to Lebron.

I'd imagine that Vince would need to be part of the trade for the eventual sign-and-trade that happens for Lebron to make salaries work.

Am I wrong assuming that it would have to be a sign-and-trade? Cleveland wouldn't give him up for nothing... or do they not have the power in this situation?

He'll be unrestricted. I assume that if Lebron is intent on signing here Cleveland would be amenable to a S&T.

Doesn't need to be Carter. We'll have cap space so it would only need to be a player(s) making about $5mm to give Lebron the max. Cleveland would get a TE for the rest.

I think Carter's gone. They will try to dump his contract in the next 2 years. I think next season as they are loaded with nice pieces. So maybe a Sean Williams, Boone or whomever w/ Carter for an 2010 expiring contract to some contender.

I think... or I hope that Thorn has learned pairing Kidd, Carter, RJ doesn't work as great if one of those pieces is a big man. With Carter gone, he could go after a big man (Amare? Bosh?). I know... pipe dreams to get 2 free agents like that (LBJ as the other), but still, they are better off going after a big w/ his salary slot.

VC will be gone. IMO Thorn just hasnt gotten the right deal yet. If VC has a good start, the contenders will come calling.

First, IMO Carter has a bad rep in this league. Not being a Winner is one. IMO Kidd and Lebron have spoken about VC's work ethic. Remember those comments about playing with Kobe or Lebron. Why would lebron want to come and play with VC?

Second, We are trying to get a young competitive team. VC doesnt fit the role. Thought he will not be that old, He will still be too old compared to the other players on this team.

Third, though his contract ends a year later, it will still be an issue. If lebron stays in Cleveland, they will be able to sign him and another top FA. Miami might be in the same situation with wade. We have to be as close as possible to get two top young FA ala Orlando with T-Mac and G. Hill. Even if we have to S&T either of them. We have to have to cap space. lebron is connected with Wade, Bosh, Amare, and any other 2010 FA. We have to be prepared.

I agree. Being able to give one of LBJ's buddies a max contract might tip the scales in bringing him to the Nets.

cleveland has no players in contract for 2010, what makes you think they can't sign 2 top free agents.

Going to be interesting because if Cleveland is not competitive this season they will have to make a move next year that will eat into the cap space in 2010. They may make a move this year. They already tried to get Carter.

If they aren't very good this season I don't think Lebron will be happy to sit through a lame duck season so the team can play the free agent market in 2010.

trade carter to phoenix, Shaq wants to play with him.

But it will be very exciting to watch Carter and Lebron play together....

I acctually think they complement each other well.

Thanks for the insight, Netted and Petey. I guess it's salary-wise possible to have Carter here with Lebron, but it makes more sense to try and trade him for a big man to pair up with Lebron.

I think if the right deal comes along, they'll probably move him. That right deal will probably have to include cap space for 2010, and players with no more than two years left, and I'm not sure if that deal would ever come along.

Even if you want Vince gone, root for him to have a monster year, that's the only way the team will ever move him. Nobody wants his contract right now.
