<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Dallas Cowboys sign fifth-round pick 06:38 PM CDT on Thursday, July 17, 2008 The Dallas Cowboys agreed to contract terms with cornerback Orlando Scandrick, a fifth-round draft pick, Thursday. Scandrick, the first 2008 draft pick signed by the team, played at Boise State and left after his junior year. The Cowboys have five picks left to sign before the team flies to Oxnard, Calif., next week for the beginning of training camp. Scandrick (5-11, 198), ran a 4.32 in the 40 at the combine. In 12 starts at Boise State, he finished with 46 tackles, six pass breakups and four blocked kicks. He had a career-high 10 tackles against Wyoming. I've read nothing but positive things about Scandrick. I don't think he'll have too much of an impact this year being so low on the depth chart though, so I don't know how excited I can be. The same thing goes for Allan Ball
Yeah, Scandrick is most likely buried on the depth chart. Which is fine, he's supposed to be a bit raw technique wise.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Cowboys have a four-year agreement in place with cornerback Orlando Scandrick, the team's fift-round pick, worth $1.89 million. He will receive a $185,000 signing bonus. Analysis: Scandrick had a strong debut in the rookie mini-camp and he was OK in the organized team activities and mini-camp despite an eye infection that slowed him down some. Scandrick could be a special teams' weapon. He blocked seven kicks in three years at Boise State, including four last year. He had four interceptions in his career at Boise St. He left after his junior year and had hoped to be picked earlier than the fifth round. Roster spot: He has a chance because of his speed and ball skills. WIth Terence Newman, Anthony Henry, Adam Jones and Mike Jenkins the top four corners, Scandrick's competition will be Alan Ball, Evan Oglesby and Quincy Butler likely for the final corner slot.</div> http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives...s-to-terms.html
Did I just read "4 career interceptions" and "good ball skills" in the same blurb? I mean hey I'm all for pass-deflections, but one has to wonder how accurate the praise of this guy is.
many college CBs with great ball skills have low INT numbers because teams pick on his partner instead of testing the ball skills....Im not saying thats the case, but it very well could be

Great ball skills can lead the other team to throwing the other way. At Boise State, I suspect this is the case (didn't watch enough Boise games to say with any sort of authority, but have read about it a couple of times). Deion Sanders had great ball skills....but in Dallas, IIRC, he averaged at tops, 3 INTs/year. And he had seasons where he had less. Also, just because a guy has great ball skills doesn't necessarily mean he has great hands.
