Toni returns 'to start working very hard'

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Luca Toni had a large box packed with new football boots under his arm when he reported back to his place of work, namely the Säbener Strasse in Munich, at 9.30 am on Monday. After a relaxing three-week holiday, the Italian appeared well-equipped for this season's chase for honours.

"Holidays are wonderful, but life's not just about holidays," the Bundesliga's leading scorer last term told reporters in a midday news conference. "I'm back now, ready to start working very hard.“ However, before Toni pulled on his new boots in the morning, he first acquainted himself with the new performance centre.

    Italian guided tour

Shortly after arriving at club headquarters, Luca stood in front of his locker in a state of some astonishment as he read his personal Message Board, before Mark van Bommel and Christian Lell added personal greetings and explained a little about the new methods at the club. Jürgen Klinsmann then took on the job of supervising the striker's first guided tour of the facility.

The head coach led his top goal-getter from the dressing room to the café, the fitness area and the family room, and then upstairs to the auditorium and the roof terrace. Speaking fluent Italian, Klinsmann explained the purpose of each separate area before introducing Toni to the new members of the coaching staff. "Everything's new, everything's different. It's all become really fantastic," the striker commented. "The club has invested a lot to create top class, relaxed working conditions.“

    Moving on from the Euro

Bayern will need total focus and effort for the new campaign, Toni reckoned. "I think we have a lot of work ahead of us this season. We'll be pushed to the limit in the Champions League, which is where you find all the best teams.“

In turning his attention entirely to the new campaign, Toni has erased the memory of Italy's disappointing Euro 2008, which ended in a penalty shoot-out defeat to Spain in the quarter-finals. "I was obviously disappointed, because we all felt we could have made it to the final. But I'm not thinking about it any more. I'm concentrating on Bayern.“

    Mental strength

FCB are aiming for glory in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and Champions League this term. "I'll do my best to help us hit our targets," promised Toni, also naming his own personal objective: "It's very simple, to score lots of goals.“

Toni's schedule on Tuesday included a first training session in the morning. Supervised by fitness coach Thomas Wilhelmi, he initially completed the benchmarking test required of all the players reporting back from vacation, generating scores for flexibility, co-ordination and stability. "It means we immediately find out the areas we have to work on," Klinsmann explained to fcbayern.de.

    Happy Luca

Toni then performed a series of exercises designed to increase co-ordination and muscle tone, before the striker took to the practice ground in the afternoon for a squad session, later reporting back to Wilhelmi for another solo workout. Memories of holidays were fading fast, but Toni spoke reassuringly: "I'm feeling wonderful. I'm just missing the sun and the sea.“</div>

After his horrific performance at the Euro, he should be. I like Toni a lot, but there are no excuses for his weak play. He needs to keep his head down and work his ass off in order to do well next season at Bayern.

Agree Kobi. Hopefully he shaves the mustache, I think that was the reason for his bad play during the Euros. [IMG]

But he will find some way to mess it up, seriously though i think he is almost past his prime as his form has slowly been decreasing.
