<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Over the course of the past two weeks, KOCO.com and SportsXtra have worked together to research what's called whois information on more than 200 domain names, with the focus primarily on possible nicknames such as Barons, Outlaws and Thunder. Most domain names and variations of them had been registered well before the settlement between the city of Seattle and the former Seattle Supersonics of the NBA.

Most of these domain names had been registered by individuals, many of whom work as domain-name squatters, people who register domain names in quantity for the purpose of selling them.</div>

You'd think after uprooting the team from Seattle and pissing off thousands of fans they could at least give the team a half-way decent name.

    Thunder is just.....well....gay! lol

I'm Partial to "Oklahoma Prarie Crickets"...lol....but seriously...that name is just bland and for marketing it just doesn't make want to think of jersey possibilities and wanting to go out and get one (unless your from there). I think the Barons or even better the Outlaws seem more marketable

It does sound like a WNBA name, but I guess there is thunder in Oklahoma, so it's accurate. I mean, there's thunder everywhere, but what else does Oklahoma have? Couldn't tell ya', because like most of the world I've never been there and never intend to.

I do like the suggested name of Oklahoma Outlaws though.

Citing a source close to team ownership, KOCO-TV reported that the “registrar for all of the NBA’s Internet domain names were reserved okcthunderbasketball.com and okcthunderbasketball.net on July 10,” suggesting that the franchise formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics will soon be renamed.</div>

    I don't like it. Sounds like a semi-pro team's name.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"It might take more mining to come up with something unique, but Oklahoma City is a very unique place,” Fugleberg said. "Geography is important. It's important that they try not to think of a name that's necessarily going to be popular in the NBA but popular in their city.”

That's precisely what the Toronto Raptors did, said Dan Rascher, president of Oakland, Calif.-based SportsEconomics, a sports economics, finance and marketing research firm.

The Raptors, who began as an expansion team in 1995, were named in 1994, one year after the release of the hit movie "Jurassic Park.”

"Dinosaurs were more popular 15 years ago,” Rascher said. "But you look down the road 10 or 20 years later and it's not so exciting.”</div>
    <div align="center">Link</div>

So wait, you rag on the Raptors' name and this the best you can come up with? Weak.

If so, I'd bet Will Ferrell is the starting small forward.

They claim geography is important to the name. Do they leave them in the Northwest w/ the Jazz and Blazers or shift the whole western conference around.

For the record, Raptors is better nickname than Jazz. Larry Miller swore he'd change it after Stockton and Malone retired.

Yeah, the word Jazz doesn't seem to fit well with the city of Salt Lake. There must be a more fitting name for them. Thoth, what names have some of the people in that area come up with as possible replacements?

I laughed out loud. When you say the two words out loud, it really fits.

I honestly don't know. It seems most people are content w/ Jazz. Creative thinking is not the strong point of the majority besides they'd have to buy new swag.

A trade w/ NOLA makes the most sense... there is a beehive on the state flag here

    Thunder is absolutely horrible.
