<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>(07-20) 20:07 PDT -- Matt Barnes appears to be closing in a contract with the Phoenix Suns, a source close to the Warriors' free-agent forward told The Chronicle on Sunday. The Warriors have shown no interest in re-signing Barnes, who was instrumental in their 2007 playoff upset of Dallas and averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds a game in 19.4 minutes.</div>

Kind of a weird fit since they don't run anymore and Barnes is a good combo SF/PF in a running system. If he can regain his shooting touch from 07-08 he'll be a good addition for the Suns. He'll bring energy, toughness, rebounding, size, attitude, even ball handling and hopefully shooting.

He would be a good fit in Phoenix with the high offense they run.

That's an awesome fit for Phoenix... a couple seasons ago. I really have no idea what type of team Kerr is trying to build anymore so I don't know exactly how great an addition this will be.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Phoenix Suns apparently dipped into the talent pool in their own division this weekend.

Multiple media reports on Sunday said that free-agent forward Matt Barnes, who played for the Golden State Warriors last season, will take a physical on Monday in Phoenix before signing a one-year deal with the Suns.

"He's the perfect player for us, an athletic guy who runs the floor, finishes at the basket and can shoot the outside shot," Suns general manager Steve Kerr said, according to the East Valley Tribune. "He's also a guy who has had big games in the playoffs for Golden State and likes the big stage."
    ------
Barnes will make the veteran minimum -- $1.2 million -- next season.</div>

Well Barnes for the vet's min is a nice signing. They are in cap hell with Shaq, Amare, Nash, Diaws and Barbosa's contracts. They really need to trade Barbosa and Diaw.

Barnes hasn't been in the league long enough to have a vets min contract be 1.2 million.

In the other news thread it says that the league would pay 400,000 from the contract and the team would pay the rest. Does that fit in then?

Nope. The league reimburses teams for any salary paid on vet min deals over the 2 year vet min salary.

He was drafted in 2002, but didn't play that year. Maybe that has some effect?

Or maybe the writer just assumed that the Vet's min is 1.2 for everyone.

I'm saying if he signed for 1.2 million, than it isn't the vet minimum. On the other hand, if he signed for the vet minimum, he won't be making 1.2 million next season.
