Why? The Phins get two draft picks for a wannabe dancer, old NFL player. The Redskins are in a division with Dallas, NY, and Philly. I don't like their chances of making a playoff run against those teams, and nevermind the fact that they have replaced Joe Gibbs with Jim Zorn. Jason Taylor will not make a difference for them before he finally retires from football. How many years do they expect to get out of JT? Moving to Washington will likely accelerate JT's retirement plans, why would anyone want to work there when they have spent so many years in a city like Miami? Washington's plan is doomed to fail.

    Brilliant post.

    Though, I may be biased.

JMO a 2nd and 5th both in '09 which is what the Saints surrended either way is greater than a 2nd in '09 & 6th in 2010.

What I think is interesting is; Peter King thinks the skins got the better of Parcells & co.

No, its not just your opinion.... its the truth, too.

A 2nd and 5th this year is worth more than a 2nd this year and a 6th the following year, value wise.

When you deal with future picks (ie, more than a year down the road), they get devalued a round. For example, in the 2008 draft, the Cowboys traded a 2008 4th round draft pick to Cleveland(?) for a 2009 3rd round choice. A 4th round draft pick of a current draft costs a 3rd round draft pick in the following draft class....

    So, a 2009 2nd and 5th > 2009 2nd, 2010 6th.

And a 1st round draft pick in 2015 is worth a 7th rounder. [IMG]

I think its still devalued just one round.

Not sure. Never seen a trade done that far in advance.

    Fine. Trade a 7th for a 6th, a 6th for a 5th, a 5th for a 4th, a 4th for a 3rd, a 3rd for a 2nd, and a 2nd for a 1st.

    So trade this year's 7 for next year's 6th..... this year's 6th for next year's 5th.....etc....etc....etc.

Won't happen. First, no teams want to sit out on a draft class entirely. Secondly, that's be 14 rookies in one year. Some teams don't have the room for that many rookies; some don't have the cap space for that many rookies, and some teams do not want to wait an additional year for that many players to develop (because they are competing now, need instant help, jobs on the line, etc).

Not sure if that's your point....?

Or that this doesn't happen? Because if need be, I can prove this.

Nonono. You trade your 7th for a 6th the next year. You trade that 6th for a 5th the next year. And so on.

Shockey wasn't a huge part in their championship run, and didn't seem like he wanted any part in the Giants organization. Kevin Boss was the TE that lead them to the Super Bowl, and the Giants want him to continue to be a big part in their offense. He caught some important passes in the postseason, and is getting rewarded by becoming a starter. The G-Men also get a few future picks.

Brees gets another target, which will make his passing game much more deadly. Shockey does all he could during a game to make his team win, which'll make the Saints that much better.

    Good move by both teams.
