<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Keep your eye on ... Cowboys defensive end Jason Hatcher. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips singled him out today at the Cowboys coaches clinic, and this may be the time that Hatcher pushes Marcus Spears for the starting defensive end job. A former third round pick out of Grambling, Hatcher has been used primarily as a pass rusher, but he has the itch to be a three-down player ... which makes him no different than any other player. If Hatcher gets the chance to play the run and produces, Spears very well could find himself on the bench. Hatcher is more of the pass-rushing type Phillips likes, whereas Spears' run-stuffing body type fit the mold that former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells preferred. - Mac Engel</div> Interesting. Perhaps he is the one to push Spears for the starting role. Ratliff and Canty would still start. Ratliff is a better pass rusher; but Spears is better against the run.
so long as they don't suffer in stopping the run too much (and with the LB's they have they shouldn't) I think this could be possible. Spears as trade bait?
I'd rather keep Spears than trade him.... depth on the DL is a good thing. But its not a sure thing this happens. Spears was pretty solid last year and Hatcher has struggled in the past stopping the run.
