Im not sure I expect Frank to make it through this year. The team wont be good and inevitably there will be talk. Will he make it? Who are the likely candidates to replace him? Who makes sense?

Because we dont have the talent we had last year and were much younger and inexperienced.

Since expectations are lower, isn't it less likely the coach will get fired?

The team finished the season 8-10, which is roughly a 36-win pace. Since then, they've added four decent (mostly defensive-oriented) vets (Jarvis Hayes, Najera, Dooling, Bobby Simmons). They've added three well-regarded rookies (Brook, Ryan, CDR) and a well-regarded soph (Yi). They've subtraced Boki (erratic shooter, bad back, no defense), Diop (no offense), and RJ (no interest in playing defense). There's also Krstic, who contributed NOTHING last year. Of those three, only RJ really contributed to the team success, and just how much is up for debate. Even forgetting about a few moves still to come (KVH contract, moving Swift, Marcus, and maybe Hassell), why wouldn't you think that this team could win 35 games?

That's not great--maybe not even average--but I'd place that above "not good."

BTW, let's say they swung a S&T for Okafor (I don't know, maybe Krstic, Swift, Ager, and Sean?). What would you think of the team then?

I guess he could get canned if he campaigned to acquire players that management didn't really want (maybe Dooling?) and they don't contribute.
I don't know how psyched Ratner would be if Thorn went to him suggesting he pay two head coaches. Probably not very

If the fans want blood, the coach will be fired. As of now, this is a 40 win team at best (based on stats theorycrafting) . This war will be fought by marketing.

If they stay healthy I think we're going to be better than last season and I don't think Frank gets fired.

We added solid bench guys in Najera and Dooling and solid rookie prospects. People keep discounting Harris as a legitimate player. Kidd was crap last season. Carter was hurt. Yi is an unknown. Plus the team isn't done.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh wait...you're serious.

The FO love Frank too much to fire him at the end of the year. If the team isn't competitive in 2009-10, he has to go.

THeres no way he gets fired for doing poorly with this roster... Hell even JVG couldn't win with this roster.

But then again Nets are in the east so they always have a shot at the playoffs.

This team is being built for Frank so I doubt he gets canned this year.

There are basically no expectations for this team this upcoming season. During 09-10 they will be expected to get at least 45 wins, but this season? Most people will predict that NJ goes 30-52. Frank will "overachieve".

Management is doing everything Frank asked of them, so their expectations might be different from those of the general public.

He'll almost certainly get this season, but he better produce.

I think the difference-maker will be the development arc of the three rookies, Yi, and whichever of Sean and Boone remains.

But isn't Yi and the other young guys development mostly on the assistant coaches. I still dont know who they are... They should at least get a good big man coach for Yi and Lopez.

frank will be the one to put them in a position to succeed, and to use them.

Did the Mavs keep Popeye Jones as an assistant after they canned Avery? I heard he did good things with the bigs in Dallas.
