Point guard Marcus Williams, who recently vowed to fight for his minutes after the Nets acquired Keyon Dooling, is headed to Golden State for a future first round pick. The trade will be announced later today. The pick is lottery protected for 2011 – so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes to 2012, the pick is protected 1-to-11. It’s protected 1-to-10 for 2013. If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets s\get second rounders in 2013 and 2015.</div> -Petey
Let me just clarify this because I dont fully understand it. Is there no chance of this pick being a lottery pick? If GS is lottery bound in 2011 and for the next few years we only get two 2nd round picks? Could we have gotten more for Marcus or was this the best possible option?
Dang, I was hoping the Wolves would go for him. Oh well, we have Telfair now. Good move for both teams though.
what does that mean, if not conveyed by 2013 the nets get additional picks in 2nd rounders, or the first round pick then becomes 2 rounders?
We got a first round pick for him? I don't care if it's lottery protected, that's pretty damn good if you ask me.
I wonder what the reasoning behind making it a 2011 first round pick was? Do you think they argued about that for a while? Does it have anything to do with the timing of a potential Lebron arrival?

This trade is OK. I wasn't a Marcus Williams fan and it is more than I thought we'd get for him, but we're pretty thin in the back-court. God forbid Devin Harris gets injured, who suits up after Dooling? Doug Overton? The Nets still need to dump Swift and Hassel so they can pick up someone who can contribute.
Thorn will probably package this pick along with some expiring contracts i.e. kvh and swift, and maybe pick up something nice to go along with VC.
Whatever you think of his development as a pg, we're definitely going to miss his 3 pt shooting. We were something like 20th in the league last year, this year we'll be even worse. Also, we're an injury away from VC as backup pg again. Hope we're not done.
This is pretty unimportant, but does this mean that MW will not play the other 2 SL games for the Nets this week?
