<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Warriors have until Friday to match the offer, but two NBA sources said they will not because they signed forward Maurice Evans, who split time between the Lakers and Orlando last season, to a three-year, $6.4 million deal.</div> http://www.pe.com/sports/breakout/stories/...22.19ec753.html It's at the bottom of the article.
Wow. Orlando took a hit this week losing both Dooling and Evans. Evans was perfect for SVG's system and he really played fantastic for them. I'm surprised the Magic let him go so cheaply. If he plays anywhere near as well for the Warriors they got a steal.
Kind of like Barnes, lot of energy, lots of dunks, things like that. You'll enjoy seeing him play, and that price is perfect for him.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Legacy @ Jul 23 2008, 12:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>How good is he?</div> Hard to say. He was a steady role player for the Lakers but he got squeezed out by younger guys with more potential and they traded him for Trevor Ariza at the beginning of last season. He was great for the Magic. He became a starter for the first time in his career and he shot the lights out. He's a good team guy and a decent defender. He's got a good NBA body and is a pretty good athlete, but he's a little short for the two. He played so much better last season than at any other point in his career that I wonder if it was Orlando's system that helped him or if he just got better all of a sudden. I guess we'll find out.

Wow that came out of nowhere. I've always been a fan of Evans' game though and hes a perfect fit for what we need right now in the back court- defense, hustle, athleticism, ability to play SG/SF, can hit 3's. Our back court is extremely crowded now though. Monta, Marcus Williams, Jackson, Mags, Mo Evans, Belinelli, CJ Watson. All these guys are gonna expect playing time (except CJ possibly) but there aren't that many minutes to go around. I wonder if someone is on the way out? CJ could be cut before the deadline for his contract to become guaranteed but Nellie said he wanted 3 PGs and that still leaves us with a logjam because hes the only guy who you could really bench all the time. Something tells me Al + Belinelli could be packaged and traded here soon. Maybe even Jackson!?
Adding SG depth is good. The guy sounds exactly like Kelenna Azubuike. 6'5, strong, athletic, decent shot. He should fit right in. If Mags get hurt, we got a solid backup behind him.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Custodianrules2 @ Jul 23 2008, 12:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I hope they trade Belinelli... for Amare Stoudamire!</div> Well I heard Nash likes to play with shooters.
Nice signing by the Warriors. The Celtics definitely could have used him as the Posey replacement especially at a nice price of 6 mill over 3 years.
Evans stepped up a bit in Orlando, in LA he was a bit of a chucker though. I would get frustrated with his shot selection, more than with an average player.

Hes a better overall athlete than Kelenna, especially with quickness (might have slowed down in his old age though), more consistent, better 3 pt shooter, etc. Hes also a good rebounder like Kelenna is and hes tough. Anyone else thinking of the offseason like this: -Monta will slide into a Baron-esque role as the centerpiece of the team, the guy who controls the ball most of the time and gets most of the shots. Its safe to say he won't be as good as Baron but I think he can be close- I think 6 apg is realistic in our offense and Monta's gonna bring higher FG% no doubt. -Mags becomes the Monta of 06-07. 3rd scorer and not a primary ball-handler. Gets most of his points from being a great finisher in transition, slashing, and situational isolations in the half court. Important because having another 20 pt threat takes the pressure off of young Monta. - Mo Evans = big upgrade over Pietrus/Barnes/Azu. Hes more consistent than these guys were, not prone to making bonehead mistakes, brings as much or more energy than all of them, better and more consistent shooter than all of them and rebounds as well as they do. Hate to lump Azu in with the other two but Evans is better than him too IMO. Wright and Beli to a certain extent may also be replacements for these guys at SG or PF when they played there but Evans is largely a single guy in that mold that I believe will provide consistent production which none of the previous guys could. Although there will be many new faces on next season's squad I think many of the roles will be the same albeit shifted around. Add in a legit backup PG and C and maybe even PF if Wright produces and that team could certainly be pretty good if they excelled. Our 3 pt shooting should be better with Marcus Williams, Mo Evans, and Mags all being 38% 3 pt shooters plus Beli is a high 30's type shooter. I like our bench of Marcus Williams, Beli, Mo Evans, Brandan Wright, and Turiaf. Dunno if it will be enough to make up for the starting lineup of Monta, Jack, Mags, Al, Beans unless they really surprise me though.
Now, I must ask: Can we (the Warriors) please sign Monta and Andris soon? But Stan Van Gundy is a good coach. I bet he had a lot to do with Evan's play last season. But I don't know much about Evans either. I think he was number 8 on the Lakers after Kobe changed to 24 though. Harrington might fit pretty well with Maggette, Randolph and Biedrins around. But I would at least be interested in learning what Marco and Harrington can attract. I like Marco, but I wouldn't let him keep the team's management from looking into seeing what his stock might be around the league.

Talk about a potential player.
Good signing. I remember when he was in Minnesota for the beginning of his career, I wanted us to play him because I liked what I saw of him in the VERY limited action he got. And look what happened! Anyway, speaking of Randolph, how much is he expected to play this year? I like him and think he'll develop in time.
they got pietrus... thats why they let go of dooling and mo evans... Why is GS downgrading and giving up basically the same amt of money? from baron to maggette azubuike for mo evans

But so far Don Nelson likes him, he's looked good in the summer leagues, he looks like he can do lots of good things on the court (besides some out of control turnover stats) so he may get quite a bit of PT this season. It's going to be one highly competitive preseason and camps/training for the Warriors this year. I am getting pretty excited. Just get Monta and Andris under contract though. After what's happened with Arenas and Baron, I just want to see those contracts completed pretty soon.

I guess they were ready for it because they never even tried to re-sign him but it was a surprise when he actually opted out. Obviously Baron to Mags is a downgrade but what are you gonna do? Mully/Nellie want to compete and they wanted Mags. And the money isn't even close. Baron at 5/65 vs. Mags at 5/50. And I'd bet a lot that the Clips will regret that contract come year 3, 4, and 5. Mo Evans is BETTER than Azu and came at 3yr/6mil whereas Azu was 3yr/10mil.
